Water permissible nail polish

Post by zulaika »

Salaams ladies!!!

I'm sure this is old news and some if not all of you heard of this water permissible nail polish...

I am shocked it exists, how did I miss it. Only time I get my nails done is when I'm praying..ahem red week... Seriously this is not something I need to indicate to others who :)

Has anyone tried this? Does it really work? And do major brands make any? I need to get my hands on one of these, seriously!

Oh and I'm sure there's much expected kerfeffle with some Muslims when they see u praying with painted nails "istaqfurullah sis, haram haram"

Sounds fab :blessed:
Heard about it a while back but I've never tried it. Do you know where in London I can buy them from? I'm also so over the typical "Salaad ma lahiid?" line too.

I don't live in London but I'm sure there's better chance of finding it there then where I live.. Where's BV? she can tell us..

And yeah that awkward time when you're at an event(community) with men and women.. and everyone breaks for prayer and the scarlet ladies remain sitting... Damn, it's as bad as screaming "I'm on my period" in the middle of busy street.

I heard about this when I was in Dubai. Didn't try it though.

I know it lets water seep through, but from a fiqh perspective, is it the same as actually wetting your nails directly?

Hey Zuli, it's called breathable nail polish. Whether it's actually halal though is up for debate. Some folks say it is and others not and there were talks of conducting experiments to confirm. Some say permeability depends on number of coats etc

I thought it was interesting but didn't pursue it further. I avoid grey areas in religion as much as possible. We're not sure if prayers get accepted in the first place so why reduce the chances of acceptance even further by potentially making your abolution invalid? That was my thought process.

That said if you google breathable nail polish I'm sure something will pop up on amazon

BarakahAllah, abosolutely right.

I asked a sheikh since replying to the topic. He said if the nail polish has the same functionality as henna (I.e becomes diffused into the nail it's okay) - but anything that has a coating, it's best stay away from it. :)
