A heavy fighting between Somalia's Intelligence and security agency (NISA) forces and armed groups broke out on Friday afternoon at an area at Galgadud regional district of Adado, residents said.
The clash began when NISA soldiers launched an attack on armed group believed to be pirate gangs stationed at Godinlabe village, just 28 kilometers west of Adado town, the seat of Galmudug state.
According to residents in Godinlabe who spoke to Radio Shabelle at least four people were killed and many more others wounded in the armed confrontation between NISA and the gangs.
Those killed in today's gunfight near Adado city, include three unarmed civilians caught in the cross fire, medics said.
Radio Shabelle could not immediately establish the extent of damage suffered by NISA soldiers.
Over the past few months, freelance armed groups have erected illegal roadblocks in the rural areas between Adado and Dhusamareb towns in Galgadud region, central Somalia.
