For the record,
The last time majertenia fought Ittihad
C/yusuf was captured, and ethiopian foot soldiers were needed. In the current climate, alshabaab have no local support and is their achille's heel. They have also lost support of influential clerics after killing of well known scholars.

Which leds me to believe this suicidal mission is likely led by an ISIS break away group trying to create their own turf.
