Pure Unadulterated Somali Culture

Post by TheGrumpyGeeljire »

Just beautiful, pure and Somali. No shitty Habesha auto music ruining it, this is the real dhaanto. A fine example of Somali culture and the great Somali race :blessed: :lawd:

I have to admit that I felt an overwhelming sense of pride mixed with sadness as I watched this, wondering how a fierce nomadic people such as the Somalis have ended up being the laughing stock of the world. The horn of Africa in its entirety is ours, it is Somali and will always be Somali. If we put our differences aside and swallow our pride, for once, the Somali nation can become a superpower, rising from the ashes like a phoenix, crushing her ancient enemies the Habesha and decimating the Kenyans. I desire this. You desire it. We all do.

Us Somalis need to wake the hell up before we are destroyed completely and erased from history by our enemies and worse still, by our lack of foresight, our greed, petty tribalism, complacency, ignorance and ineptitude :meles:

The first video is not dhaanto but Hirmo (Hariimadee), which has its roots in Djibouti and Shinile region.

It was warrior dance for the Issa usually performed before a battle in which they prayed for victory and glory.

The one above comes from SL and is slightly different to the original hirmo. In that footage they perform the hirmo for wedding not war and thus pray for hibo rather than guul.

I believe they used to perform hirmo to the family of the girl when asking for her handbin marriage and once they agreed and took her they used to perform galbis.

War hirmo by the Issa

Galbis, Khadra Haid returning to Hargeisa from Djibouti

The second video is the pure Ogaden dhaanto done in the outback.

This was when Ogaden still had ONLF but now days fhaanto is crafted by TPLF for propaganda like Barre's Onkod band.

By the way, dhaanto itself breaks into 5 or 6 different versions or sub-categories.

Thanks Tuushi! Can't seem to get the videos right nowadays

Aw-Rastaale,
What do you think of these new phenomenon of Ethiopians using music to influence Somalis in k5; is it working, or has it failed? Btw, on the first video, what regions in Somaliland is that particular dance played?

The TPLF dhaanto has conquered and dismantled more minds and households than Menelik, HIM and Mengistu Haile Mariam forces combined.

It was dhaanto 24/7 and made to think as if something was given back rather feeling that it was theirs and now was made to feel "free to exercise".

That is clever policy of reward for loyalty but not many people ask what do you get and what do they take?

Amhara and Tigrai may feud on the surface but under the certains they have a govermental policy that each carries where the other left regardless of difference in ethicity, political doctrine or ideas.

For example they found oil in Somali region as far back as 1954 and each leader has since continued to mark more wells secretly while keeping publicity away.

Wxay aminsan yahin Somalidu wa sida duqsiga, meshi qoyan ku arkan ama cid hadal haysa inay ku so xomayaan so things have to be kept secret.

Do you think they would build $10b pipeline to gamble?

No way. They already know the amount of oil and gas.

If few dhaanto songs can get us oil and gas---why not. Is their approach.

It is great exchange rate where Somalis get few dhaanto clips but they get land as big as France and billions of dollars worth of gas and oil.

Dhaanto is great tool.

The first video is not dhaanto but Hirwo and it was filmed in Hargeysa by SOCSA (Somaliland Culture and Sports Association). That cultural dance is quite common in western SL.
