If Omar Gheele manages this right and loosens his grasp on power a little bit, than DJ has the potential to become the best country in the horn.

Kid, if Djibouti plays its cards right, it could become a very influential regional power.

So far they have maintained a positive relationships with all its neighbors. Ethiopia, Somalia, Sudan and Eritrea.

And they have French, US and Chinese bases which would help with developments

Omar Gheele just needs to introduce democracy in to the country and Djibouti could become a role model for the rest of Africa.

Lol sxb djibouti is partially free and democracy but it has some french system known as majority vote and a multi-party system wich is a coalition of the official issa and afar parties

For example the opposition once got 47 percent of the votes yet all the seats have gone to the ruling coalition bc of the system....this is different than ethiopia and these 99.99 votes

Yes it's not real democracy but atleast they respect their constitution

Civil liberties r protected by the constitution, there's real courts who will release you against the govts decisions or will

Our djibouti brothers r free for their leaders but I don't think there will be better than geele...look how he transformed djibouti and its army

Opposition has won djibouti city in the local elections

Umm, there is not much democracy if the same person has been in power since 1999.

But i wish nothing but the best for DJ's. They seem cool folks.

sxb djibouti was the only stable horn African country since the 70s. is not that some thing to be proud of while sudan, ethiopia and somalia have seen alot of regime changes?

Al haji guleed has left office willingly and before 8 months of his death

Doesn't this show that he cared more about the country's future than himself?

Prez ismael will leave the office some day but he believes now that he can give the country more and more

When he became a prez, djibouti had mainly police forces now you see they r keeping peace in somalia

More relations with the US and now China...Let alone more ports he even have a f-king project of one of the international sea sports since djibouti has warm waters

Majority of djiboutian live in djibouti city wich has an elected mayor from the opposition and talks shyt about the ruling party...there's another urban town wich is run by the opposition

Alcohol is sold freely everywhere, prostitutes ply their trade to all those foreign soldiers from USA/France/China/Germany/Saudi Arabia/etc, rate of HIV/Aids is increasing too fast. That aint progress.

^ Every desirable city attracts the not-so-good traits of human behavior. Djibouti city is no exception to the social ills plaguing any cosmopolitan city with a vibrant economy. Unfortunately, migrants from neighboring countries are the overwhelming source of these ills. It is prohibitively costly to round up migrants and ship them out, only to see them back again in few weeks time.

@Sahal, I see your point but there are many capable men who can lead Djibouti Republic well into the 21st century and possess better vision than the status quo.

@GabadToad, your diatribes are not worth responding to here, or any other thread. I have read your other comments about many topics, take a chill pill, come out of that taxi cab and take fresh air off the Hudson River. It does wonders.

Djibouti has the world powers and gulf Arab/Ethiopia in their back, has the most strategical important entrance aka bab el mandeb, has the coastal entrance, small population easy to sustain and etc. They have huge potential but the government are incompetent.

Despite all of these, most Jabootis are poor and have lack of infrastructure and etc with no sign of progress. The government never called their allies sitting in Camp Lemonnier to build their country as long as they are in the country.

UAE has the very same thing Jabooti has minus the oils yet look at their country and how they use their allies to build their country.

Jabuutawi, 75% of UAE population are expats/migrants yet they progressed. Nothing to do with "migrants".
