that is 5.3 million livestock in 2015,the reason,there is simply a huge demand for somali livestock in Middleeast!

The growth has been boosted by continued export-focused interventions, “good prices”, and growing markets in the Middle East, analysts say.

“Somalia saw increased demand in 2015 for live animals in the Gulf, mainly due to increased investment in animal health services by FAO and other organizations, which is key condition imposed by the importing countries,” Saeed said.
Over 2,600 Somali camels were sold to Egypt in 2015, the first time since civil conflict broke out in Somalia some 25 years ago, the report said.
“Analysis of these average farm-gate prices indicates that Somali livestock producers could have earned more than 380 million dollars in 2015 from animal exports,” the report said.

Somalia’s Minister of Livestock, Forestry and Range, Said Hussein Iid, said the government was pleased with the remarkable growth in livestock exports, adding that there is still much more to do to grow this sector.

Richard Trenchard, FAO’s Country Representative for Somalia, said the UN agency would continue to mobilize technical and financial resources to ensure that Somalia’s livestock sector regains its past glossy as a major player in the global livestock industry. Enditem

In reality it's actually SL exports grew. 70% of those figures came from Berbera port. 2014-2015 same/similar numbers. Mogadishu got 2,500 camels from Egypt. That's the only new thing.

The export data, collected by the FAO-managed Food Security and Nutrition Analysis Unit (FSNAU), indicates that Somalia exported 4.6 million goats and sheep, 340,000 cattle and 77,000 camels in 2014, worth an estimated $360 million. Among the major ports that exported these Livestock’s are Berber and Bosaaso. in the north west of the country, Berbera is the leading port of all animal exports with 3.4 million heads and almost 70% of all Somali exports, while Bosaaso in the north east was second with 1.6 million heads of livestock. The improved fiscal situation in turn has supported restoration of some government services. Schools, health clinics, and regional government offices have reopened in most urban areas. This year, Somalis will head to the polls to elect a new president and parliament. They will also vote on the proposed new constitution. This electoral trifecta could well put Somalia on the path for a future move from fragility to stability.

It will be a long time before Somalia can discard the security umbrella of AMISOM or the large inflows of assistance from the UN and committed donors including the EU, UK, US and Turkey.

But Somalia has changed for the better and its current leaders appear determined to prevent a return to the recent lawless past. With new embassies and business moving into Somalia and continued economic and security advances, Somalia looks like it may be poised to move out of the shadows of war and poverty and into a brighter future.

He added: “We have, for example, seen spectacular growth in live animal exports since Saudi Arabia lifted a livestock export ban in 2009. What we aim at today is to see Somalia export high quality meat and a range of related by-products such as leather. The agriculture and fisheries sectors display similar strong growth potentials too. Our common challenge is to translate this potential into reality in the coming years and put increasing money into the pockets of Somali farmers, fisher folk and livestock owners.”
