Somalia's insurance market: Zurich Group acquires Malaysian unit

Somalia is set to enjoy more insurance products as its first foreign owned firm, Malaysian Assurance Alliance hands over full ownership to Europe's Zurich Insurance. The Malaysian owned firm has been operating in the country for a year offering motor vehicle, health and marine insurance. For Somalis, the sale translates to cheaper policies and expansion to rural areas. Zurich Insurance is set to take full ownership of the company after the deal received regulatory approval, giving Europe's fifth-biggest insurer a foothold in the world's second largest Islamic insurance market.
