Huuno I have heard of the saying but in my case if you see my friends you will never guess that I am their friend, hence why I ask this question.

Okay. So their are the friends that you hang out with and they will define who you are, if you hang out with heroine addict friends that doesn't say anything good about you either. Then there are people you are friends with from a distance, perhaps old school mates who's taken a different path in life. They are called distant friends, you meet and greet when you run into eachother and that's about it.

I understand and see where what you said to be true.
However, it is possible to be friends with different individuals from different backgrounds, professions, different habits/hobbies etc and that what binds and brings them together (for argument sake) could be having the same ambitions and respect for each other's backgrounds and shortcomings. Also having the same views on the world for example could be whatmight bring them together and makes them friends. Despite the fact that they may have different habits/hobbies.

Yes of course, being friends with someone doesn't mean you have to have the same views, hobbies or even believes, the friendship could be existing because of personality compatibility.

I mean, interest and hobbies, tend to be similar, but friendship is not only about playing football together, it's about being able to call and say " I'm in the shit, can you lend me x amount of pounds?
