How come Burco doesn't have an airport of it's own

For a booming major city between the east & west of Somaliland ,it's very odd it does not have an airport.
It would save a lot of trouble for folks who land in Hargiesa & want to reach Burco or any town in Sool & Sanaag
not to mention it would be very profitable & take some load from Egal airport.

When you think about it, Burao is the middle kingdom of Somaliland, where east meets west, strategically and with regards to water it should be our commercial capital.
Problem is Burao is a flamable and divided city, the two grand families do not see eye to eye, hence investores from abroad would never bothered to invest unless they have local roots. Unless the latent HYHJ non- peace is solved, Burao will never live up to its true potential.
Even where the airport should be located, who to control it would be a matter of quarrel and fighting,.
Allthough there has been a draft about a possible Sheikh Bashir airport, but it appears to be nothing but the refurbishment of the shanty landstrip in the south east, not a national iniative.

That tension between east and west burao only exists in maqaaxiyaha hawada . it's not practical especially last 19 years. The only 'guux' was about the administration and that's no longer an issue most key Burao administration officials are not even from togdheer or the 2 habar except the elected 21 councilors. Silanyo changed the whole regional politics. The ciise guy who was the governor of saylac yesterday is the governor of oodweyne today, same goes to the courts, police and other regional coordinators. No more 'imasaynu leeyahay'. Burao clans are segregated for good there is completely no land or property dispute between hj and hy. I have never seen the two fighting over land or other properties ownership. It was all about politics.

In my opinion the government should expand Hargeisa terminal before investing Burao run way.

The reason why the two do not fight over land is because there is a red line and each habar knows excactly where that line goes.
Segregation does not belong in 21 th century.

It's not that deep any more. In terms of clans Burco is no different to Hargeisa. Every subclan lives in their side of town. However when it comes to business or in the city centre it's all good. You would see a HJ bakhaar next to a HY and next to that would be HJ and then HY...
HJ people own land in the west and HY people own land in the east. Everyone is cool, but at the end of the day everyone likes to live amongs their family.
In terms of the airport thing, I don't think it's happening any time soon. We have the worse and most corrupted mayor, Maxamed Muraad.
Also reer Burco don't care about their city, everyone wants to tahriib.

No need for airport in Burao. Wa ina Hargeisa la camiira instead of having two expenses.
After Egal becomes competitive to those in the region such as Djibouti, Aden Adde and Bole can we lay the stone in Burao.
They do deserve better roads and buses.
There should be a more direct route via Badarwanaag.
A small airport in Erigabo is must though.

Every village wants an airport. Berbera is few hours away with a built, good road that can be cut down to 2 hours

What are you all on about? There is an airport in Burco just like Berbera has, but it's not currently operational. I can't remember the name of the road but when I drove down (if i remember correctly) you pass the soap factory ilays)? Fellow established Burco folk please correct me if I'm wrong.
And hawdian, maalkeena halkaynu galinno haddaynu reer Burco nahay anagay noo taalaa

if you wanna invest too then tafaddal, haddii kale na gacaloow arrimahaaga ku foof, annagu Hargeisa iyo meel kale toona uma joojinaynee
And what's hangool79 banging on about? War ha nugu noqon inkaarqabe oo kale, east and west businesses and corporate buildings and restaurants are well mixed, only residential areas are separate, and that's nothing new due whatever hatred or fighting you're talking about, it's been like that forever. Just a simple matter of deegaan.

Hahaha Yummy I know you want small airport in Burao so you can supply the food.
Wan ku fahmay.
Burco investors always want the big cake in Hargeisa. Look at Deero, Dahabshiil, Mohamed Yusuf--none of them want to look back.
Burao is good for Salafists.

Very disappointed with the replies so far.
Burco the 2nd capital of SLAND & livestock center
of the whole country doesn't have airport ...........
YM I meant a real airport with paved runaway.
The current abandon one is a flat strip terrain.

It should become our priority after Berbera corridor and ditch Hargeisa-Burco maintenance project.

Looool. these guys from hargeysa acting like their city is any different. Waryadhaheen faanka naga daaye

, every somali city has their residential tribal xaafado. If someone says they live in calaamadaha or new hargeysa you'll know their clan, so don't act like it's just burco.
Talabaad. Burco has an airport near new burco xaafad off the main road headed east, and now it is more important now than ever. Bosaaso recently increased their flights and upgraded their airport therefor more people from sool and sanag would rather fly there than take a trip from hargeysa, or berbera(when it re-opens). Burco would fill this gap, especially since the construction of the new road in sanaag is near completion. But I'd prefer berbera to be the main internaional airport in the entire SL and for it to reach international standards even before hargeysa. There's Nothin like flying into the airstrip along the red sea surrounded by mountains

Personally Burco current priority shouldn't be an Airport but a hospital and local jobs for the Youth. Burco loses more youth to Tahriib than any other place. That has to be addressed. We need Rer Togdheer to invest in their state
