That's soil, not sand. And it's all just part of the Doi.

Some red soil can be observed in some vicinity's near and around Kismaayo. A lot of deforestation makes it appear almost barren sometimes if its dry but then you only have to travel some KMs before you hit the rich Jubba riverine forests and agricultural regions.

anything south of the river is red soil.
