Ladies, what do you think?

Post by EvolSyawla »

Just came across this tweet:

"If he doesn't cook dinner or clean after during Ramadan but is fine letting his mom/sisters do it while fasting 16+ hrs every day, run away."

I laughed it off but really, what do you think? For those of us on this side of the world, asking your brothers to help is like swearing in a mosque....everyone looks at you :o

But for those in the west, would you ask/demand (and rightfully so) your brothers/husbands for help before/after afur?

Hadu ninka aqligiisa siini laheed intu hawsha igu daawado after fasting all day, I honestly don't think I would ask for any help from him/them.

I like qof is dirdira who uses their own aqli.

What if the guy does all the grocery shopping? First go to the xalaal meat, find the butcher and wait a long time just to get $50 hilib ari. Then head to the fruit store, fill up the shopping cart. Then to Safeway to get the rest of the ingredients.

Do I still gotta help?

That is what I do, and so far no complaints Alhamdulilah. But there are some guys who do all of that and the wife still expects him to do part of the cooking and cleaning. Well if he wants to why not? But I personally think she should give him a pass most of the time or every now and then.

Also we should try to help out at home as much as you can anyway. Like taking care of the kids while she cooks after you have done the shopping.

LOL bacda madow

No I am in Hargeisa Nubian.

Rambo, no, It just wasn't in the books. :)

Advo darling, groceries once a week do not exempt a man from helping his sisters/mother/wife. Have you ever done the dishes after afur? Or set up beforehand?

Gaashaanle1000, thats a good compromise, I'll admit.

I think in Somalia it's frowned upon to ask brothers/husbands to help with the dishes and the chores after afur.

In Somalia most Somali men go to pray isha and taraweeh is almost immediately after so the time is tight.

It's a little different in the west I think, but i do expect my husband to help and he does, we have a routine,

He brings all the stuff from the table to me to the kitchen and I put them in the dishwasher. I empty it the next day.
Most often it's only the two of us but when we have guests like his sister and her husband, we leave them to relax and me and her do it together and catch up.

These things shouldn't be an issue for normal people. Allah has given everyone aqli and conscious, therefore, helping your sister/mother/wife is a must for all men.

In the West, if wifey is working or going to school, husband has to take care of house chores when she is away.

Btw, house chores are very simple and a good hobby too. Cooking, cleaning, and vacuum are necessary part of family life. It shouldn't be big deal, especially when living in the diaspora.

Dear gegiroor, you're right. It shouldn't be an issue. Alas, it is.

Lol our maid quit first day of Ramadan. I guess she thought we wouldn't help out.
