How do we teach our kids/future kids

Post by Inaayah »

I was having a discussion with my Mum about how we can teach our kids/future kids our history without instilling hate in their hearts intentionally or unintentionally :?:

I've heard my Mums thoughts, what are your thoughts :?:

What do you by 'instilling hate in their hearts'?

Share your mothers thoughts, I want to hear her perspective before I can make judgement and share my opinion.

Over a caano geel, then teach them 'the way of the Awr' as our history is shaped by the Awr and the persuite of the ever elusive water.

She just said that taarikhdooda waa looga sheekayn kara without creating nacayb for certain qabiils in their hearts by always reverting back to the teachings of Islam.

It's impossible to teach the way of the Awr in this day and age. The way of the awr is no longer what it use to be. No more free spirited Awrs roaming unchecked. Today they are exercised in court yards like prisoners. They graze on garanwaa tree and gm crops. The geeljire of the 21st century wear levi and use Iphone. He likes pizza and hamburger, and avid follower of the Kardashians.

Where would the hate come from? Our history isnt just bloodshed unless by history you mean the civil war. This actually a problem for northerners. Some fish n chips non somali speaking sl kid doesnt know fuck all about our history but he knows to hate hawiye and darood from young.

Thread should be how do we slanders teach our kids our history without instilling hate tbh.

I agree.

Save for a few generalities, much of the Somali history I know, I learnt through my own research.

The things that helped me shape an identity as a Somali, was more the stories, the poetry, the gabay/maah maah that the older folks shared.

Im more saddened that I won't be able to pass that down. If anyone has written resources, particularly about stories in Somali, please share. :)

Are we talking about the history of the clan or the collective history of the ethnic group? :?

Oh so this thread is for you isaaq people? You should said in op because the rest of us looking at this thread would think what hate is she talking about tbh because we dont discuss no other qabils with our kids and when we do its not something that would instill hate.

Sour? lol. Over what exactly?

There is not much of Somali history without qabiil. On the other hand, you can teach the traditions, cultures etc without the qabyaalad. I always loved that aspect of our history.

This dance is from North, this saar from west kinda thing. The beauty in the diversity.

You'll only be able to do that once Somalis become more rational and less emotional (sign of inferior intellect). Simply put, Somalis are too emotional so citing facts or reason is futile exercise.

There's nothing unique about Somali qabiil system. All hitherto societies have been, at one point or another, tribalistic. But they outgrew tribalism. Somalis do not have monopoly on tribalism.

Our history is not just the civil war.. I teach my kids about hiddo iyo dhaqan right now history is not very important at this stage.. They have asked me recently why did you and daddy leave hargeysa it's a nice city and when they saw the airplane down town in front of damal what it represented

My response was mummy there was a big war in hargeysa so ayeeyo took me and brothers from hargeysa because it was not safe and we couldn't stay.. the airplane represents the bad times of hargeysa so we don't make the same mistake again and we have to be nice to each other..

I will raise my kids how my mum raised me which is all somali ppl are brothers and sisters..
