What I have observed in Somaliland: an apparent difference in males and females...

Post by TheLoFather »

... In regards to the practices of Islam.

In my 2 months stay in Somaliland I have not come accross one single female (of any age) that is not dressed in full Islamic attire (maashaa'allah) however it is a different case for males; almost all the male youths and those under 40s in towns and cities support skinny/tight jeans and pants as well as tops.

Also while visiting shopping centres I found that all shops selling male clothings stocked nothing but skinny jeans and pants while their female counterparts stocked nothing but Hijabs, jilbabs, niqab and diracs. I have not seen a females clothing store selling anything that is not to a Conservative taste.
Male clothing stores however with the exception of those selling khamiises and Islamic merchandise are entirely influenced by western pop culture and football.

So I have come to wonder why the difference between the sexes and are females in Somaliland more religious and conservative than males??!!!
