This is Western imperialism 101
First their governments target Xawalas due to "security reasons". Then western companies move in to cover the gaping hole that's left behind.

The ATM is way cheaper than even the cheapest Hawaala I ever seen, the world remit. I withdrawed about 500 dollars from ambassador hotel ATM last month, the machine charged me only 7 dollars. The ATM is owned by a Mogadishu based bank called premier bank. Kudos to that bank I really like their service.

And why is anyone from the diaspora, who's there, even bothering to use xawaladaha to transmit their money.
Down with xawaaladaha, effing blood sucking leeches.
Wonderful news and so cheap too ...I think it's as much as when I go to Canada and I use my visa

The Somali remittances companies are profit geared greedy entities, just like these western bankers...and offer nothing in return. I don't like them, in fact I feel they overcharge and somehow are involved in riba... I'd rather do business with visa and collect Aeroplan rewards.

Visa and MasterCard have economies of scale, so they'd crush Somali xawaala. Although, Somali xawaala enterprises need competition I think in the long-run Somalia would be better off with its own native financial services. Somalis need to find a way of protecting their vital domestic industries, such as finance, from the ravishes of foreign competition.

Profit and greed are what spawned these enterprises in the first place. Without the profit motive, there would never have been any Somali xawaala and you'd have no option of sending money to your relatives back home.
Xawaaladaha waa in taallo loo dhisaa.

I despise a majority of these Somali remittances companies.
