my compromise with the great Somali nation
I'm new here and should briefly introduce myself.
My name's Muhammad. I'm an ethnic Oromo, from the powerful Macca clan, which numbers at least 14 million.
My father (he died in 2013, Allah yarhamu) was a member of the oromo liberation front in the late 1970s to the 1980s. In 1978, He marched to Mogadishu from southern Oromia, on foot, with 250 Oromo. My dads older brother was already in Mogadishu leading his own unit. They met with and had several meetings with siad barre and his government. My dad even lived in Mogadishu until the SALF put pressure on siad barre and forced him to close the OLF office around 1982. The main issue was the oromo refused to fight under the title Somali abbo, basically, refusing to give up our identity. The Salf, or Somali abbo liberation front, had Oromo leaders and soldiers, who didn't mind the title as long as siad barre supplied the necessary armaments etc...people like the famous Shaykh Jaara, the oromo hero, spent 5 years in berbera prison for refusing to fight under Somali abbo.
Sorry to rant. But i see the oromo and somali sometimes have problems concerning border demarcation. We should just share the disputed areas instead of two major Muslim groups fighting and sending each other to hell ....
If we worked together like the tplf and eplf did... Somalia would be in much better shape and so would the Somali region in Ethiopia... and the Oromo too would obviously benefit... our ancestors were trading before Ethiopia existed... i see no reason to fight somali when i rather fight Tigrayans.....the true oppressors of our collective people....,
Btw, ONLF should switch its name to SNLF, be more inclusive and attract support of Somali clans not just the Ogadeni clan....

Welcome our Oromo Muslim brother, I hope the best for both Somalis & Oromo we shouldn't fight each other, but the real enemy. They have learned to divide us, so that we can't rise again. But I hope that we see the bigger picture.

Your last sentence makes sense. It's one of the biggest reasons why ONLF could not reach their goal over the years despite their bravery. The organization lacks political strategy that can generate financial, military, and intelligence support from the Non-Ogaden Somalis in the region.

My boy welcome here. I know who you are.
I believe Abbo is Somali attempt to label or nickname Oromo by their popular term "Obbo", which means Sir/Mudaane.
It is sort of like calling Somalis Warya.
Mojja confirm that.

Somali Brothers a reference to the Oromos, Sidamo, and other tribes. The Barre regime set up a rebel group called a the Somali Abbo Liberation Front (SALF) which was active in Southern Ethiopia and was provisioned from inside Somalia.

Re: my compromise with the great Somali nation
What would you like in exchange? Access to the weapon markets in Somalia? Preferential trading status? A common alliance against the South Arabian spawn?
Re: my compromise with the great Somali nation
oromos and somalis are one people with different languages.
Re: my compromise with the great Somali nation
If anything, browsing this part of the forum should have shown you that there is no such thing as a "somali nation". Somalis are a diseased, fragmented people.

oromo boy my name is gacanyare nice to meet you i would like to lease some oromo land i am a business man for a period of 30 years somaliland is willing to do business with the oromos on some key areas. on diredawa Somalis and oromos can work things out i dont see a big issue there. what do u say my friend dont worry about onlf and darood they are not the smartest somalis they will make the same mistake over and over again
Re: my compromise with the great Somali nation
somali abbo=somali brother. it's basically oromo people who live in the lands that siad barre wanted to expand into like bale, hararghe, arsi lands, etc.
i dont mind being somalis brother but not if it means i have to deny my identity. still love and respect somalis though. we've shared both bad and good times together.

Waachiis.. the OLF used to receive military aid from the Hussein Aidid government but if you have gold and cash you are welcome to shop in Somalia. Ask for the Ilmo Waaq discount
Re: my compromise with the great Somali nation
Yes even Eritrea was shipping arms to the OLF who was stationed in the somali city of ''qoryooley'' in southern somalia.AbdiWahab252 wrote:Waachiis.. the OLF used to receive military aid from the Hussein Aidid government but if you have gold and cash you are welcome to shop in Somalia. but the problem was what eritrea sent was not enough to free a land that is 10times bigger than Eritrea itself.
which is why we always try to reach out to bigger powerful countries who have a bone to pick with the habasha elites (SUCH AS EGYPT).
egypt has the know-how and money to fund and train 100,000-200,000 oromos.
eritrea doesn't. and the sanctions hurts them from doing so.
