I'm always saddened when these kinda topics are brought up! Let us not be like African Americans or Indians who are obsessed with skin colour! And if you have a preference please maskaxdiina ku qafula [yes i'm looking at you Cigaal] because you don't know what kind of untold damage you can do by blurting it out.

A while ago one of my sisters confided in me and another sister[we were on our way to town] how she feels like she's the least attractive out of all of us because she's darker than the rest of us. I was shocked i had no idea! I kept stressing that she's beautiful because she is but she couldn't see it. Now i hate with an all consuming passion any guy who harps on about light skin

Your sister needs to accept and love herself. You cannot expect others to change when it comes to anything. People will always be ignorant and proud of their ignorance.

I honestly believe that our dark skin girls are beautiful. How many a time have I seen captivatingly beautiful dark skinned Somali women.

This whole light skin is beautiful is nonsense. Thats not Somali culture. We have always appreciated a dark and maariin skin.

Yes, just last week there was a woman on Universal advertising her products. She was educating Somali women on how to take care of their skin. Started off with dissuading them from lightening their skin then went on to tell them that her products "wasakhda iyo madowga ey wijiga ka dhaqan"

It always takes me by surprise when I step outside of my immediate family and see just how prevalent skin lightening is and the more I pay attention to the language we use around skin tone the more respect I have for dark skinned Somali girls who have stayed true to the skin they were put in by Allah
