In light of the recent Niiko-gate I would like to know if you guys think that we should ban Niiko aka Somali-Twerk.

My personal opinion is that this disgusting dance should be banned. Fadlan hand it back to Beesha Jareerweyne.

Well from a religious perspective it is Haram. But even aside from that, you cannot dispute that it is a primitive dance with sexual undertones. I do not think that it is suitable for our noble Somali culture.

I have been told that even our Bantu neighbours in countries like Tanzania frown upon it and that it is usually performed by whores.

It is not only performed by eelaay and Bantus.. cut the malarkey.. large sections of southern somalis perform it. They even do it at weddings and such. They have appropriated it from the Bantus though.

Niiko is healthy part of hawiye culture and by extension Somali culture. That being said, not sure it's the dance you greet with foreign dignitaries in public
