How can SL reform its land free all the capital stuck in there?
I like to see improved titles where not only owners have faith in but the public in general and most importantly the business.
Right now every Farah and Xalimo that had $20k saving has injected all in land and there is no way to free it.
If titles were improved and corruption reduced, they could easily obtain a Sharia compliant loan and the $20k could have been used to set up a business that not only generates income for the owner and gov but jobs.
Billions of dollars if not trillions are stuck in real estate and there is no way convert them into working capital.
This is one of the main reasons why land prices are so fluctuated. There should be limit to individual land ownerships and the size of the land.
A lot of landowners have not developed these titles either for business or farming to help feed the nation.
I believe tougher land-to-the-tiller programs are needed that means in the case of an absentee or lack of development on the land, the Gov should put such property back on the market.
How can we regain the public land from the self-appointed tribal landlords?
Discuss.

This is a big issue because everybody owns land from the diaspora to the wasir, xildhibaan, xamaal, xayraan, rich, poor...AwRastaale wrote:How can SL reform its land free all the capital stuck in there?

Land is property, property are assets. No one wants to lose their assets.
I beleive people in urban areas should pay council tax to dawlada hoose.
Especially those in the city.
Either develop your plot of land or sell it.
If not pay tax.

I would make it so that if you haven't built property or a business on the land with 5 years, it automatically gets put back on the market and 75% of what you paid for it is given back to you. I would also introduce land value tax. If you own land with no property on it, you get taxed 25% and if you choose to develop the land, you only get taxed 15%. I would also provide cheap government backed loans to anyone who wants to go into commercial and agricultural business.
