Interracial relationship scorned

A woman from Perth, Australia, says she is disgusted after receiving a racially charged message from a stranger ridiculing her relationship with her partner of one year.
Cynthia said the message appeared in her Facebook inbox on Tuesday morning, and left her feeling surprised and saddened.
"I just want to say one thing. You and your boyfriend do not deserve happiness. You are black and he is white," the message read.
"How could you fall for someone with a different race than you. This is disrespectful and disgusting. I cannot believe he went for you when he could have gone for any other white girl in Australia.
"I'm sorry but this is disgraceful. White people should stay with white people!"
Cynthia said she believed the person had blocked her immediately after sending the message, so she was unable to report it to Facebook.
"It was one of the worst feelings I've ever felt," she said.
"This message made me realise that there are so many different people out there... I'm not letting this bother me at all, as I know that my boyfriend loves me for who I am."

After posting the message publicly, Cynthia was inundated with supportive comments from other Facebook users.

While grateful for the support, Cynthia said she and her partner were keen to put the experience behind them.
"Nobody deserves to be treated differently because of their colour of skin... we all deserve to be equally happy - I don't ever wish this to happen to anyone else," she said.
Radio journalist Kema Johnson detailed a similar experience with Facebook messages.
"U ended up with a white guy...whitewashing your Indian cultural identity I see," the unsolicited message read.
The experience left her mystified and angry.
"No mutual friends, nothing... they didn't know anything about either me or my husband," Mrs Johnson said.
"When I saw it, I was horrified - I don't know what possesses someone to think 'I think this is OK to say to a person'.
"I think if you've fallen in love with someone, and you've made that decision, you shouldn't worry too much about what other people are thinking.
"At the end of the day, race doesn't factor into your daily lives when you're in a relationship. If anything, you help each other to grow and learn about the world."
