havent heard of this, its probably wild rumours.
Isreal is the only one allowed to add their own systems to the F-35,
they have to because its the only way to salvage the F-35 which is junk.
The F-35 resembles the F-105 from the vietnam war, it was big hulking monster too expensive but full of bugs and the design was so wrong that the vietnamese had it for breakfast with their 1950's era Mig-17s.

it already has finished trials and entered limited production.
The thing is that it is not yet ready, because critical systems are not yet finished.
Instead of overblown costs, and massive delays as several new technologies are introduced at the same time,
the chinese and russian approach is incremental, you use what you have right now, and you implement new systems as they come online.

So the J-31 is stealthy, but underpowerd because WS-13 is not yet ready, the radar and ecm are also not ready.

All stealth planes will looks similiar because the look depends on function,
they have to look that way to absorb radar.
but yes china has stolen f-35 research data,
they used the data to build things their own way, and avoided the crazy and amazingly stupid US program.

I wish i was a fly on the wall when the chinese first looked at the data,
they would be extremly suspicious and paranoid, because in their minds they would think no body can be that stupid.
The americans must be hiding something else, because nobody spends this much money for shit.
