Years ago I said import water, Landers giggled
WATCH THE VIDEO
Few years back I recommended importing water from Ethiopia by exchanging port usage for water.
They build their own road to Togwajale, SL builds its own pipeline to Togwajale.
The Landers giggled like little girls saying that they have water.
No doubt there's aquas but do you have the funds, skills or equipment for it? Nah they laughed.
So 2 years later half of the population are in despair because they have no water since the rains have failed.
There is no rain forecast until May 2017.
Many nomads have already became IPD after they lost all their livestock but still SL flashes around little $5m taking photo fanfair.
They also said they were working expanding Hargeisa's water but it turns out it's just another NGO project with limited capacity.
To make matter worse they relying on the same element (Ethiopia) I was suggesting.
This week the Ethiopians have left SL for back home for their Christmas and SL has to wait for the Ethiopians to return and build the well/pipeline or for the rains.
Whatever the NGO allocated for this particular project has now went into the pockets of Ethiopians. Still they going to need them even to run it, repairs, expand, etc.
When I said import I just knew they neither had the skills nor the work ethics.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wWwu0Sldcrc
The gov takes credit for things like this when in reality they only managed to re-start pumps or install a meter.
Even after Ethiopians build it and hand over it will stop working after few weeks (be patient and see it for yourself).
My expectations of them are low and while majority of Landers/Somalis feel that way only a small percentage says as it is.
In the end the money still goes to Ethiopia you might as well save your aquas and drain their rivers.

Every isaaq brain is when Ictraaf will come , I want my clan to win the Election and what reer konfur doing this and that , where I can eat my Khat today .
beside that nothing.
SL is good how to govern a government but beside that like create plans or do something for the people zero .
SL budget is more than PL because of DP money & UK AID but still PL lead ahead on bring solution like water dam in bander bayla or building Badhan university or Bossaso & Garowe airports or the Ceeldaahir-Ceerigaabo Road , etc.
Honesty most the AID is non PL but Im taking about how to manage your money to build your state .
Without kacaan infrastructure, Sl did nothing .

AwRastaale you definitely know Somaliland government rarely hires foreign companies to build something for us . But Some how this time they hired an Ethiopian company instead of kulmiye cronies. I doubt we hired the Ethiopian company, I believe the donors did. Horta feel happy for your Ethiopian country men atleast they got a a full contract, the government could bought some skilled individuals around the world under Somaliland Owned company.
I still can't figure out why do we need to import water from Ethiopia while we have enough water sources in our country, that's makes no sense. we just need to keep digging , our people are suffering because we have no enough wells and dams not because we have no water beneath our soil . We do, we just need more funds to drill more dams, portholes, birkas and ballis .
Mida kale are you insane why would we exchange port for water with the Ethiopians, when we have water . Man your xabashi jacayl is sometimes ridiculous , you want us to give you our phuking only port for water . Kkkkkkk

TheYusuuf
I welcome your views but the way you thinking and how I see things are very different.
Frankly speaking I can't be bothered to explain anything to anyone who thinks that they can just drill and drill.
For God sake you can't even build this small 15km pipeline and you want to tell us you can drill and drill even you have no clue how deep SL aquas are.
You do know 1 liter of water weighs same as 1kg of cargo.
If Ethiopia unloads 1 ton then water coming in is just under 1000L. Just an overview without getting too technical or thinking about things such as density, etc.
Basically whatever their volume is convert that into volume of water going the opposite.
Now you have 3 advantages;
A) you are watering your land and introducing an additional source thus replenishing water table, soil moisture and so on
B) you can now produce all the fruits and vegetables not only for local consumption thus reducing imports but can export and generate revenue
C) you are not paying any cash, cargo for water
The likes of Yusuuf just wants to drill and drill. That's how geeljire killed their she-camel Maandeeq by just milking her until she dropped dead.
The great USA too has oil but it still wants to run the Arab one dry first.
Now you make nothing from the port - mere $200m max. Somalia makes $300m from sesame seeds. If only you had the water to turn half of Gabiley into sesame field, mangoes and bananas in Sanaag...you would make far more from agriculture than Berbera.
The Ethiopian is still cashing on you and whatever you make from him in the port right now is minimal. Khat addicts like you don't care about money leaving. You happy to spend $500m on khat but not water for cargo does your head.
You don't care you buy Ethiopian khat five times a day and therefore play your role in the one-sided trade.

Just watch how Konfuur agriculture exports will surpass any revenue from ports in the next decade.Annually, sesame revenue in Somalia is estimated at $300 Million US, accounting for 5.25% of the country’s total GDP of 5.71 billion US (2014)”

I agree with hawdian. I would rather pay for water to support farming than waste hundreds of millions on khat.
@hawdian, what regions will be able to supply the water? I prefer Oromos to treacherous habeshis.

man i honestly believe somaliland should go for some loose union with ethiopia whereby whilst we control most policies including having our own military, we should share a few functions e.g. currency and customs unions and same foreign policy
Re: Years ago I said import water, Landers giggled
Actually that's not a such a bad idea, if you look how prosperous Western Somali region has turned out under Ethiopian government rule.BigBreak wrote:man i honestly believe somaliland should go for some loose union with ethiopia whereby whilst we control most policies including having our own military, we should share a few functions e.g. currency and customs unions and same foreign policy
The people of Hargeisa would actually see an improvement in all areas, like infrastructure, education, health and everything else if they join with Ethiopia.
I say go for it. Its good in the long run. Only drawback is, Khat is gonna be strictly regulated under the Ethiopians. And that isn't such a bad idea.

Why would anyone consider joining the powder keg that's Ethiopia. It's a one party rule dictatorship and the citizens have no voice... Water for freedom. Why did we fight Barre again?
As for giving away Berbera so this Habashi can bring his Ethiopian handlers our prized jewels. Back to the drawing board for you Hawdian. Today, obviously your Isaaq head has been left at home and you're on full Ethiopian mode.

If your women can eat khat and smoke shisha like no tomorrow even with al Shabab there, I am sure it won't be too bacGAMES wrote:Actually that's not a such a bad idea, if you look how prosperous Western Somali region has turned out under Ethiopian government rule.BigBreak wrote:man i honestly believe somaliland should go for some loose union with ethiopia whereby whilst we control most policies including having our own military, we should share a few functions e.g. currency and customs unions and same foreign policy

You have A population of 700k
Your towns bosas have never heard a bullet or seen war yet they haven't seen any development of note.
Your villages are captured by terrorists every few month.
You aren't better then the south when it comes to security as there are lots of assassinations even in mosques.
Puntland hasn't achieved anything really when we look at it. Unproductive population dependent on aid from Mogadishu.
Forget comparing it to Somaliland and compare it to the sool region for example
