the point is simple gen siyad bare was not a nationalist where as mengistu loved mama ethiopia more than anything in the world. he would have never gambled with the idea fighting to the death to keep tplf and eplf out of power. siyad bare on the other hand declared war on his own supposed people destroying the second largest city. when he couldnt hold it he did that. mengiustu in his place would have never done that imagine mengistu retreating in jimma and try to geroup and launch an attack only with his shewan oromo to attack the tigres it would have been catostrafic how ever mengistu never tribalized the national army yes the bulk of the generals and colonels were amhara and orormo shewans. but the army institutions remained intact. where as in somalia siad bare destroyed the army with his mod alliance from with in it was rotten the last 10 years there was no somali army. so if u ask me siyadbare kabaha

not really mengistu was also a blood thirsty dictator the only difference is he knew when to stòp. its not about siyad bare being good or bad ofcourse siyad bare was good for his kith and kin the darood people and bad for his enemies. same way mengistu was good for shewan amhara and oromo and bad for his enemies tigre and Eritreans. both were dictators and killled civilains the only difference is one stepped down and accepted asylum the other one fought to the bitter end. which led to the collapse of the former somali republic
