AUN to the brother.

Not every Somali who is a victim of gun violence is involved in that "life". Stop trying to use that as a justification for a lack of sympathy/empathy. He was Reer Nur and my parents knew his family. From the looks of it, he was a good kid, volunteered in the community and what not. Unfortunately, in community housing, no one is safe, soomaha. My advice to anyone who lives there is to move toute suite. Oddly, enough my mother told me (about a week ago) of that neighborhood being infested with gangs and how they wanted to see to it that even honest guys that were "non-affiliates" would be targeted. It takes a certain type of trigger-happy sociopath to do something like that. I hope justice is served.

AUN. I thought he was HJ, not that it really matters.

Toronto is turning into a slaughterhouse for young Somalis regardless of whether or not they're involved in gangs. Too many armed xayawaans walking around killing people with impunity.

His mother is HJ.

Exactly. Hence, why I advise them to move out of community housing/tough neighbourhoods. The unfortunate thing is there are rarely any arrests. They really think they can get away with murder. Not to mention what it does for the Somali image collectively.

Because they do get away. Either no one talks and the case goes cold; or if they feel the cops are on to them, their parents will cut them a one way ticket back home.

Somalis in Toronto who didn't leave the hood yet have unfortunately screwed themselves over now that the cost of housing is soaring to the point that it's beyond reach to middle class people, let alone poor Somalis. I would advise families with young boys to leave the city altogether.

That's the unfortunate part. Killers shouldn't be rewarded with a one-way ticket to the motherland.

The valuation of homes is through the roof. You have shack-sized bungalows selling for 1.1 million. If one is looking for some cash flow - look into American real estate. The thing is most Somalis aren't interested, due to "Riba". Anyway, I think it's better to pay a little extra than to live in affordable housing. There is a slight misconception, one does not need to actually buy property in Toronto in order to live in a safe neighborhood. I'm just saying being in the city is a tad more convenient than living in the periphery.

Renting in a decent neighbourhood is still very expensive in the GTA. I doubt many Somali families in Toronto can now afford much more than community housing/rough neighbourhoods, and as a result innocent people are being targeted.

It wasn't too soon but his time. Aun.

As for housing, Somalis are nomads by nature. Moving half-way around the world in search of a better life is natural if they deem it worthy. So, do they know the long-term consequences/risks of their current living situation and not care enough to move? Or do they not know and feel comfortable? It's not all about money at the end of the day. Consider moving to the States, Europe, heck even China wherever the needs take you. Nomads explored constantly for greener pastures and returned with the 411. We can do it but do we want to.
