Abeeso (Puff Adder) vs Soongur (Mongoose)

Post by gegiroor »

Abeeso (Puff Adder) is the deadliest viper in all of Somali inhabited Horn of Africa and sub-saharan Africa as a whole. This viper is stealthy, predatory, to the point where it follows its victims, including humans.

Luckily, there are other animals in our regions who keeps it under control. In this video, you'll see Mongoose (Soongur in Somali) killing it.

Schools in South Africa are researching how to detect these deadly snakes by training dogs and other animals, including mongoose.

In this video, honey badger (xoor in Somali) tracks it, kills it, and then consumes it. He is even immune to puff adder's venom.

Bro Paperino, it is prevalent in all of Horn of Africa. Actually, it is found in Sub-Saharan Africa. It is number 4 killer of Somali nomads. First being disease and malnurition, second being wars, third being truck accidents.

Abeeso is peaceful. Very rare. The most deadliest snake in our region is the black mambas. They are long, thin and brown with black heads-----you will be gone within 10 minutes. Without anti-vermon, they death rate is 100%.

Not 100% certain but I think in Somali it's called halaq.

It is actually halaq that is very rare and only seen during the rainy reason. It also attacks when in panic. For instance, when it feels that it is threatened is when it attacks

To the contrary, abeeso (viper) follows human and animals' trails and attacks it. It and jilbis are the most hated snakes in Somali peninsula. One should visit back home and see the stories of doctors, nurses, and nomadic 'medicine men' to hear the horror of these snakes.
