i couldnt go but my collegues went, and they were mugged , beaten up and nearly shot.

there is a reason why everyone is packing heat over there..
its crazy, and the whites are not safe at all.

ive met a few southafricans all are upper middle class and do not live in ghettos, but in secure gated communities ,
and every single one of them has been in a fire fight , and either killed robbers, or had friends or family killed infront of them.

moqadishu, and even baghdad is safer than joeburgh or capetown.

That's their way of dealing with the humiliation of being second class citizens in their own land and having little control over their country. It's obviously wrong and irrational to attack innocent civilians, but when did anger and frustration lead to rational behaviour? Imagine Somalia being governed by wealthy white men and foreigners migrating to our land setting up businesses and taking up jobs while we had little say.

Still, the perpetrators should be punished; and I'm not justifying their actions, just understanding their plight.

According to a Somali guy who used to live in South Africa, the white South Africans are decent human beings who would treat you with respect. If a white South African police officer stops you, he would let you go as soon as he finds out you're a Somali even if you don't have driver license and immigration papers. If you go to a hospital, the white South African nurse would welcome you with decency and treat you while the black South African nurse would see you as someone who is taking opportunities that would've otherwise been held by a black South African.

Keep in mind the black Africans have this animosity for all Africans from other countries including Zimbabweans, Nigerians, Malawians, Somalis, Ethiopians, Eritreans, and from other places.

The sad part is the current President Zuma somehow makes excuses for the vigilantes who attack and hurt the defenseless migrants.
