Why The Oromo Civilization Is Superior To That Of The Camel Raiding And Camel Following Neighbour
Oromia is believed to have one of the largest livestock herd in the world, and is the largest in sub-Saharan Africa with an estimated cattle population of more than 30 million. The Oromo culture of sustainable animal husbandry is credited for this large livestock herd. Out of the many varieties of cattle breeds present in Oromia, the Sanga (scientific name: Bos taurus africanus) is the best known around the world. The word Sanga has also become the Oromo lexicon used to describe the cattle breed in many languages around the world.
The Sanga, with its distinctive horn and hump, has become “the base stock of many of the indigenous African breeds.” According to UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Sanga breeds of the Oromo spread to southern and western Africa from East Africa (the Horn of Africa) – the time is believed to be around 1600 B.C. The are numerous studies including UN-FAO publication that actually takes Oromia in the Horn of Africa as the the hub, where many of the cattle breeds in Africa originated from.
The Edinburgh Gazetter (Geographical Dictionary), a publication based then in London, says in its 1822 edition:
“The Oromo subsist chiefly upon their cattle, some of which are distinguished by horns of extraordinary magnitude, extending even to four feet in length..."
Even today, the Sanga in particular, and cattle in general, are revered in the Oromo country from Borana in the south to Raya in the north.
The reason Why The Noble Oromo highly revere and admire Cows and cattle husbendary is summarised in the following saying and song which is taught to all children:
" The cows give us milk, from which we get butter, skimmed milk, cheese, whey, hide to sleep on ( ITILEE), and besides the bulls help us by ploughing the farm lands."
THE COW CAME THROUGH THE GATE,
HER CALF CAME AFTER, A LITTLE LATE,
NO LONGER TO BE LED.
THE CALF WENT ON AHEAD,
FRIENDLY COW RED OR WHITE,
I LOVE WITH ALL MY HEART,
SHE GIVES US THE MILK,
WHICH OROMOS LIKE TO DRINK.

Bull shit. If oromos have such vast herds Ethiopia would have been recognized for its livestock exports. Reality is no African country has more herds of livestock more then the Somalis period.

Ethiopia does have the largest livestock population in Africa. The only problem is that most is on a subsitstance level. So the cattle is a form of savings for most farmers and a source of food for herders.X.Playa wrote: Fri Jun 09, 2017 2:33 pm Bull shit. Somalis were not all camel herders. Some were cattle herders like Oromos, some were farmers, some were fishers, some were traders, some lived in towns and then you got the madhiban folks. But all oromos are very primitive and were far away from any civilization. They did not have any states before menelik conquered them. The Somalis who were camel herders were much more superior because they had contact with the world, whilst Oromos only learnt technology from Somalis.

The Oromo have formed several states before menelik was even born or thought of!Lion104 wrote: Fri Jun 09, 2017 4:12 pm Somalis were not all camel herders. the jimma kingdom, gera, gumma, limmu,
the mammadoch muslim wollo confederacy in wollo which had to fight TWO MAJOR christian abyssinian armies and maintain their Islamic faith, while somalis were conquering inferior negroid tribes ( i say inferior, because of their weapons, and levels of organization)
the warra shaykh of wollo
and so on.
we just had numerous smaller states as opposed to one huge centralized one. same for somalis, they never had one centralized govt who controlled and administered all somali inhabited lands. you had separate, albeit very powerful, sultanates and so on.

Plus the yejuu dynasty took over Ethiopia for awhile too. Re: Why The Oromo Civilization Is Superior To That Of The Camel Raiding And Camel Following Neighbour
However, Somalis are always generally classed pastoralist society with vast majority being nomadic camel following communities their most valued and sought after asset being the camel and the most respected and fear men amongst the community being the camel raiders. They are celebrated and imortalised by top poets of the day (themselves often being raiders and camel robbers) with elaquant and beautiful poems, songs and plays, with such sayings as "A man without camels was not honoured in the hereafter."
Somalis are associated with camels more than any other creature hence why I have generalised them as camel following Camel Robbers. While being very much aware that all Somali are not camel led, I for one is an example as I am from cow herding qodaal/farming back ground but such is the dominant culture of the Geel Raac/Camel Following communities even I unfortunately could not can not escape their influence. Every Somali has been affected by this culture and it being the nucleus and cause for inferior civilization and Achilles heel of Somali progress.
My original post basically outline the fact that the reason The Oromo people had superior civilization over the Camel Followers (Geel Raac ) being because of their Cattle husbandry and land ploughing. Cattle being universally understood as the first sign of wealth and ploughing lands enriching productivity and enhancing civilization.
As Somalis we should aspire to cattle husbandry and ploughing lands and take inspiration from Our neighbouring Oromo cousins.

My dear X, I am surprised it's unlike you to blind yourself from facts!X.Playa wrote: Fri Jun 09, 2017 2:33 pm Bull shit. Ethiopia has the fifth largest number of Cows in the world behind Brazil, India, China and The United States.
And close to 70% of Ethiopia's cattle is found in the Oromo regional state.
It is absolutely inaccurate to say that no country in Africa has more livestock than the Somalis, no denying Somali do have a considerable amount of livestock. But I think you are mistaking Somalia being the number exporter of livestock in Africa (in fact in the world and no African nation come close 2015 and 2016) to having the most.
