DEG DEG: Somaliland & UAE friendship turning into nightmare

Post by Polus »

-So first they fired over 250 Berbera port workers.
-Then they slashed the remaining ones salary & banned them from having unions that can argue for their rights.
-Then they made a deal not to pay tax to hargeisa

Now the regular shipments Berbera used to deal with Prior to DP world take over is in Jeopary. Over 20 ethiopian trucks left their goods at berbera when they were told that unloading would take 20 DAYS. Berbera port never used to delay shipments like this, but under new management they are losing money :mindblown:

Somaliland gov now threatens DP world that the contract will be terminated if they do not reverse these problems fast :stylin:

It's a great deal for Ethiopia, their nephew Reer Silaanyo and the UAE. The local Ciise Muuse are being marginalized and being displaced from their native city

I've always known that no foreign entity will ever develop Somali lands......it's irrational to believe anything else. :)

We already warned them, DP World is only a front for UAE intelligence service too destroy any real competition with Dubai port. They took over Aden and Seychelles port smd purposely tanked them to oblivion. Its sad that AwAmxaarle think otherwise, meanwhile Al Barakat port manager of Xamar is expanding and hiring more employees

The thread is about Berbera port & DP World; your comment is unrelated.

DP world fired incompetent employees and is taking the time to properly re-hire, train, and assess the port operations. It was never expected to be smooth at the beginning but at end Berbera and Somaliland will be stand to benefit.

Turkish Albayrak company managing the Mogadishu port cut the port workers jobs and decreased their wages from $6 per load to about $1.80

And many employees staged protests outside of the Parliament.

This stuff happens everywhere and isn't unique to DP.

Somalis are notorious for always expecting the best without going through any sort of process.

The initial impact of DP might negative but in the longer term It will be well worth it. People just have to be patient

You aren't making sense. This is only gonna be well worth for SL's elites, particularly those who signed it. In a region where the unemployment rate is 80%, firing those employees is akin to the death sentence. Now, hundreds of those fired employees are left without any means to feed their families.

To the outsider it all seems things are getting bad. But that is exactly how it should be, it will get very bad before it gets better.

The vested interest, those parasites who sucked this port dry, will leave no stone unturned to try and make a comeback. But it is not going to happen.

Again I raised some facts. Same thing Happened in Mogadishu and it is doing just fine.

DP just gotten rid some excess weight is all.

1.When did the turkish firm handling th mogadishu port refuse to pay taxes to federal government, when did they even insult ministers by not attending meetings requested by ministers?

2.Because that is exactly what DP world did to the minister of commerce of SL. representative of DP world said dont interfere in our operations to SL minister of commerce. :damn: :damn:

3. Also turkish firms dont have a history of buying ports & then ruining them like DP world did in Yemen. Or hated by Djibouti as the gov has sued them but lost. :blessed:

You are skipping the fact that the SL government ITSELF is now threatening DP world, not critics :stylin:

You are defending something your gov in hargeisa is frustrated about, they have had the port since february. its been 6 months & not one result. Meanwhile mogadishu port has consistently outdone itself compared to previous quarters. :blessed:

Exactly! Imagine a nation that itself has huge % of its economy reliant on ports helping its competition to get more share of their economy??

Its oxymoron!
