HBO cancels K'naan's Mogadishu, Minnesota Show
HBO has opted not to proceed with its drama pilot Mogadishu, Minnesota, written, directed and executive produced by rapper K’naan Warsame and executive produced by Zero Dark Thirty and The Hurt Locker‘s Kathryn Bigelow.
Last September, protesters shut down K’naan’s neighborhood block party in the Cedar-Riverside area, marching, chanting and carrying signs that read “K’naan and Bigelow — Stop exploiting the Somali community.” Organizer Filsan Ibrahim said Friday that she felt as if the protests paid off. “We were only fighting for us to be seen in a positive light,” she said. Some from the community had been concerned that the show would stereotype Somalis as potential terrorists — an image the community has been fighting. “There is more to Somalis in America,” Ibrahim said.
Damn I was looking forward to this show...looks like the terrorist won again...crabs in the bucket can't see a young brother winning.

This is fantastic news. K'naan can go fuck off and make steorotypical TV shows about other people.
Re: HBO cancels K'naan's Mogadishu, Minnesota Show
Let him go make a TV show about Dixon jajab where niggas get shot every other day.
He should have let it go when the community told him to back off, now he lost thier respect and HBO chucked his ass.

Minneapolis is the worst place on this planet. I've been there once and I was so disgusted. It really is Dofaar Ismaciil/Hutu capital in America.

Somalis nd their jealousy smh i would rather have a somali brother making films about somalis than ajnabi who gives no f about our image. Did somalis in MN protest against tom honks' movie? Of course they didnt. They queued up to be part of it. At least this time a somali would have profited

I think you're confusing two things, they were lining up for the Tom hanks movie because they wanted to be seen as pirates, pirates are cool in western image, also the pirates were defending their livelihood, in the K'naan production they did not want to be seen as Muslims and be associated with terrorists, so they were pretty much ashamed of their religion, I don't believe in them being scared because they literally dominate that city, so I'll go with them being ashamed and not wanting to be seen wearing muzzie attires and all. So you shouldn't blame them.CigaalSHiiDaaDCFC wrote: Mon Sep 04, 2017 1:19 pm Somalis nd their jealousy smh i would rather have a somali brother making films about somalis than ajnabi who gives no f about our image. Wrong! Unlike you, Somalis aren't 'pretty much ashamed of their religion.'DaacasBiyo wrote: Mon Sep 04, 2017 1:56 pm I think you're confusing two things, they were lining up for the Tom hanks movie because they wanted to be seen as pirates, pirates are cool in western image, also the pirates were defending their livelihood, in the K'naan production they did not want to be seen as Muslims and be associated with terrorists, so they were pretty much ashamed of their religion, I don't believe in them being scared because they literally dominate that city, so I'll go with them being ashamed and not wanting to be seen wearing muzzie attires and all. They want to be seen as Pirates but not terrorists? That sounds like Pepper or pepperoni or whatever that slow kid's name is. Somalis that played pirates also played terrorists. Your argument is null and void.DaacasBiyo wrote: Mon Sep 04, 2017 1:56 pmI think you're confusing two things, they were lining up for the Tom hanks movie because they wanted to be seen as pirates, pirates are cool in western image, also the pirates were defending their livelihood, in the K'naan production they did not want to be seen as Muslims and be associated with terrorists, so they were pretty much ashamed of their religion, I don't believe in them being scared because they literally dominate that city, so I'll go with them being ashamed and not wanting to be seen wearing muzzie attires and all. Lol@ pirates are seen as something cool in the west .. put the bottle down gaalyahow. Somalis are proud of being muslims nd they are right to be against any narrative that paints them as terrorists. What i was arguing is that someone els will make the show anyways so why not just let your brother make it. Tell him to show what most of somalis look like too. Not only the few misguided ones.
