This study examines the relationship between khat chewing and liver cirrhosis among khat chewers on Somaliland. Cirrhosis is usually caused by excessive alcohol consumption, but this study finds a causal link between khat consumption and hepatotoxcicity,, which is unusual. The individuals who were examined denied that they had consumed alcohol, but admitted that they were regular consumers of khat.

If this study is corroborated and epistemologically sound, this is one more reason why khat should be banned in Somalia and among Somalis across the world.

Loooooool a study based on 8 people. What kind of a fucked up sample is that? 8 people in Borama who chew Qaad and deny the fact they are drinkers isn't science its Suugo Science.

Well I did and 8 people in Borama is a small sample all 8 could be drinkers. And this liver disease isn't limited to alcohol alone as you quoted.

"Cirrhosis is a complication of liver disease which involves loss of liver cells and irreversible scarring of the liver. Alcohol and viral hepatitis B and C are common causes of cirrhosis, although there are many other causes."
