Re: djibouti would welcome turkey military base
.Djibouti is open to any kind of approach from Turkey such as building a military base to secure the Red Sea, Djiboutian ambassador to Ankara Aden H. Abdillahi has said, pointing to possible steps that could be taken to strengthen military ties between the two countries.
Touching on the visit of Djiboutian President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh to Turkey, Abdillahi said: "Omer Guelleh's visit to Turkey will completely change the relationship between the two countries." He said that the visit will pave the way for further cooperation in various fields, including education, health and economy. The two countries signed many agreements while he was in Turkey.
In relation to the economic relations between the countries, the ambassador said that Turkey and Djibouti agreed on establishing a Turkish special economic zone that will enable Turkish business to establish industries.
Now all of a sudden everybody in the region wants a Turkish base. UAE and Saudi's are idiots to push so many countries on edge.
Opening a base in Djibouti makes a lot of sense for Turks since Djibouti is the narrowest natural point of the Red Sea. There are Chinese and French bases in Djibouti. It's kind of too crowded unless Djibouti wants a huge Turkish presence in the country and plans to phase out the French base.
I would rather prefer Turks to open a naval base in the North of Somalia. Maybe in Berbera or Bosaso. I hope Farmajo is following what neighboring countries are lobbying for. Turkey seems to have a soft spot for Somalia. Use it, Farmajo.

.
This is very good for the whole region. It means industrial capacity and trade volume in the Horn of Africa will increase. It's a win-win situation for all countries in the region.
Turkey has built a huge airport (over $500 millions project) and national conference center (over $57 millions) in Senegal. So, Turks are on the level, both technologically and financially. This month Senegal President, Macky Sall, was in Turkey asking for more development assistance.
.
.The Abdou Diouf de Diamniado International Conference Center was the largest Turkish investment officially completed in Senegal. Turkey provided €48.5 million ($57.23 million) to finance it.
Dakar's new Blaise Diagne International Airport constructed by Turkish companies Summa and Limak also opened last week.
Turkey, Senegal agree to enhance bilateral relations

Turkey is not welcome in SL and there is no such thing as Farmajo, the guest of Mogadishu, in this world.
A better option for SL is UAE and Russia.
After all Russia knows Berbera very well.

SL is part of Somalia. Farmajo calls it "Northern Regions". Internationally, Farmajo is your president. That's the hard fact.
UAE is a known destabilizing force in the region. That's another hard fact.
I would also welcome Russia's involvement in Somalia. Unfortunately, they have another meat to roast, Syria.
Russia and Turkey are big buddies now. So, you hate Turkey for helping United Somalia? How myopic of you!

Lasquray seems good position to Turkish base.AyubD wrote: Sat Dec 30, 2017 3:51 pm.Djibouti is open to any kind of approach from Turkey such as building a military base to secure the Red Sea, Djiboutian ambassador to Ankara Aden H. it is all good.
Re: djibouti would welcome turkey military base

It needs to be in more or less developed area with road access so it can spur development instead of being put in an isolated area. Turks are good at road/railroad building, and construction in general. They are building railroads in Ethiopia and Tanzania ($3 billions investment). Naval base will encourage investment in commercial port development due to added safety and infrastructure. From there it's not hard to envision railroad construction connecting north and south.
Turkey ranks second in the world after China in the volume of foreign construction projects. in 2017, 46 out of top 250 construction companies in the world were Turkish. So, developing the port area should not be a problem for Turks.
Another advantage of Turkish base is that it would keep Ethiopia in check and prevent habesha from any serious meddling in Somali state building process.
Though I doubt we can compete with Djibouti in terms of geographical location. Come on Farmajo, use your charm and talk to Erdogan!
Coincidentally president of France, Macron invited Erdogan to Paris right after Djibouti president visited Ankara. The meeting will be held January 5th. I am pretty sure Macron will ask Erdogan not to take up on Djibouti's proposal and offer some sort of concession to Erdogan, most probably in military technology transfer. Turkey, France and Italy are already developing national Turkish missile air defense system jointly. Their defense ministers were in Ankara in November.

.Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will visit Paris on Jan. 5 to meet his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, with the conflict in Syria high on the agenda, Reuters reported o Dec. 30, citing a source in the French president's office.

Turkey ranked in second place after China for the number of contracting companies building the largest volume of projects across the world outside their home countries for the 10th year in a row, according to the latest list of the world’s “top 250 contractors” by the magazine Engineering News Record (ENR).
The number of Turkish companies on the list, published on Aug. 18, rose from 40 in the previous list, which covered 2015, to 46, Reuters reported.

Sudan just leased an island in the Red sea to Turkey. This means the Turks will be within a boat ride from Jedda and closer to Egypt & Isreal. They plan to build a military base there. This will make a base in Djibouti less strategic.

Both bases would complement each other. Djibouti base would control access from the Arabian Sea, preventing foes from accessing the Red Sea. Sudan base would give Turks quick and easy access to countries you listed.

Interesting discussion on Al-Jazeera about the military base development and importance of the Red Sea.

Are Somalis capable of industry, economic planning and innovation? All they ever try to do is make money by selling their booty to foreigners.
