Has Somalia defeated Alshabaab? No.

Has Somalia made a professional, national army free of tribalism and possible militia break-up? No.

Has Somalia made a final constitution? No.

Has Somalia made gains in institution building where the political environment can safely continue to progress? No.

The US is still in Germany and is still in Japan and is still in South Korea almost a 100 years later. Yet it was precisely they stayed and gave security to the formation of post-war institution building that those countries are the best success stories to come out of war in the last 200 years.

I neither trust the Somali army nor the Somali political class to guarantee the SECURE SPACE for post-war institution building for Somalia to move forward.

Somalia will need at least another decade for serious, very serious improvements in post-war institution building and we need a 3rd party (AMISOM) to both continue to support us against the fight against Al Shabaab as well as our OWN WEAKNESS (namely tribalism) as we try to build a really professional army free from tribalism.

Only someone blind or naive to the realities or an enemy of Somalia would want AMISOM to withdraw.

The minute they withdraw, we will go back to 2006 unless those serious post-war reforms have taken place WHICH THEY HAVE NOT YET.

These are professional soldiers who have probably taken rigorous screenings in every capacity including health. I think they have more to fear from catching TB and all sorts of infectious diseases in Somalia than vice versa.

What has Amisom done? If they were serious, we would have seen an end to the cat and mouse game with caruur xuun oo mostly teenagers eh a long time ago.
