I recently read that the true size of the Oromos in Ethiopia is much less than the officially publicised figures which range between 40-50 millions. It argues that these figures include a great number of Oromo speaking Amhaaras and Oromo speaking Gurages as well as Oromo speaking ethnic groups originating from the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples region (SNNP).

Therefore, I ask the question is the Size of the Oromo population in Ethiopia exaggerated?

Please note that no one argued against the fact that Oromo is by far the largest ethnic group in Ethiopia!

The oromo are at least a third of Ethiopia which has about 107 million people.
A third of 107 million would be about.. 35 million, give or take, so even that number is huge enough to be the majority.
Keep in mind we all assimilated people.
If u were to go there. The amara population would decrease significantly too since they assimilated many many oromo, agews (who are cushitic too), gurages and others.
Many of their leaders were oromo who spoke Amharic and were Christian.
Such as gobana dacce the famous oromo war general and strategist who pretty much smashed everyone in Ethiopia including other oromo clans and made them Ethiopian.
