UAE ambassador to Somalia: You are right, DP should be banned

Mogadishu (HOL) - Somali Ministry for Foreign Affairs on Monday summoned the United Arab Emirates (UAE)'s ambassador to Somalia, Mr. Mohamed Ahmed Osman.

The summons, made on Monday was confirmed in a statement by the Ministry which said the Emirati ambassador had been asked to explain the controversial deal which his country owned company signed with Somaliland.

The Ministry said Abdulkadir Ahmed Kheyre, the state Minister for Foreign Affairs had discussed the ambassador over the issue of the deal and its possible consequences.

"During the meeting a number of issues took place, including the illegal agreement between the administration of Somaliland and the Dubai Global Ports (DP World) and the legal issues that might result in violations of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia," reads the statement.

The statement said the envoy affirmed UAE's commitment to respect Somalia's unity and sovereignty.

"For his part, UAE ambassador to Somalia stressed that his country was fully committed to protecting, respecting and supporting the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Somalia, stating that there was a need for continued cooperation and consultation to broaden and deepen cooperation between the two countries," noted the statement.

The move comes barely two weeks after Somali Parliament issued resolution banning DP World from Somalia.

'DP World has outrightly infringed on the sovereignty, independence and unity of Somalia. Therefore the company is forbidden in Somalia," read the resolution.

I am totally against the SFG vetoing the DP world deal......the iidoor own and run the port so let them do as they please within limits of course.
The piece of filth that runs DP world must be brought to heel.....the deal must be modified so it doesn't contravene Somali constitution. :) :som:

This!

We should not be against Somaliland prospering economically or looking out for its interest. I think competition is great for the country however all deals must be fair and must benefit its citizens.

That's the difference between north and south.....we want the iidoor to prosper so they don't lose their youth to the Libyan slave markets or at the bottom of the Mediterranean sea.

There is 90% unemployment and widespread drug addiction in s/l......they need this deal badly.
We shouldn't veto it.....just modify it. :)

Until Somalia is stable, on its feet and some sort of negotiated settlement between Somalia and Somaliland comes this will continue to be the norm. Somaliland will be in limbo and nations will always engage Mogadishu first even when its at its worst. This is a note to all the Somalilanders who are constantly wishing death and destruction on the rest of Somalia. You’re only playing urself :umad:

The naval and army base are being built as we speak and the airport has already been given to the Emiratis.
So on that Qadaadweyn have clearly failed.

On to the port, new airport and the road between Berbera and Wajaale - This will be started this year.

The Emiratis are clearly committed to this - All the activity in recent months attests to this.

There is NOTHING the Faqash, their Hutu minions and their African protectors can do about this.

We will return to this topic later in the year and see who was right.

Wanlawein are trolls who live in their own bubble.

They have no clue about anything.

First of all security council is a white boy club, precisely Anglo-Saxon club.

It only serves their interests and right now their interests are with UAE and KSA. No body gives a fock about failed Somalia, Turkey, Iran, North Korea and Qatar.

Everyone knows Turkey and Qatar are financing terror groups as well as the wanted Sudanese regime.

It is waste of time. Somalia doesn’t exist.

Btw UAE ambassador never said anything close to Wanlawein imaginations. Where is the audio/video? It’s Hiiraan blog. Old man is in Ottawa having shisha.

Meanwhile...construction begins on free zone, Ethiopian warehouses (distribution centers or dry ports in Wajale), port, airport and base.

Faqash are useless. Even the UN Security Council spelled it out for them

On Somaliland, Inner City Press Asks UN About UAE Deal and Somalia Complaint, UN Says Bilateral Dispute
By Matthew Russell Lee

UNITED NATIONS, March 28 -- The day after Somalia in the UN Security Council complained of Somaliland engagement with the United Arab Emirates, Inner City Press asked UN Spokesman Farhan Haq for the UN's position. He said it is a bilateral matter between Somalia and... the UAE. From the UN transcript:

Inner City Press: Yesterday, in the Council, Somalia made a point of saying that they believe that an agreement between the UAE and Somaliland to build a military base is illegal and I wanted to ask, since the UN has this Envoy, Mr. Michael Keating... What's his position? It's a pretty big standoff between a de facto autonomous region agreeing to a military base by another country, the UAE. Some people say this was permitted under an agreement [reached in Turkey, which Inner City Press put online here]. Some say they aren't. What's the UN's position on the UAE building a military base in Somaliland?

Deputy Spokesman: Ultimately, these are discussions that need to be resolved bilaterally between the Governments of Somalia and the United Arab Emirates." Hmm. Note that Inner City Press has also asked the UN about the UAE moving in on Socotra Island of Yemen, here. Back in September 2016 after in Somaliland a petition was announced, with a million signatures, seeking recognition of independence, Inner City Press put the question on September 27 to UN envoy Michael Keating, video here. He said he's been asked to get more involved - but what does that mean?

He told Inner City Press he is unaware of the tariff / recognition issue with Kenya, and that he has not met with the UN's new Resident Coordinator for Kenya, Ban Ki-moon's son in law, during the ten days the latter has been in New York.

Keating gave a useful explanation of the Somali president being in caretaker mode; it was the foreign minister who spoke in the General Assembly debate and meets Ban Ki-moon on September 28.

Keating impk

Earlier on September 27 Inner City Press asked UK Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN of the UK, Peter Wilson, video here.

Wilson said Somaliland is "complex," but that he expected it to be turned to in the Security Council consultations later that morning.
:russ: :pac:

Nobody gives a fock about failed paper state under AMISOM not Arab League, not UN...hooyadin uu ooya.
