the derg, which was finished by 1991, was not supported by the majority of amharas.
most of the dergs support base, was in the south, because he got rid of the amhara landlords, and gave land back to the farmers.
the amhara were among the most anti derg people. when the eplf/tplf/eprdf expanded into gojjam, gondar, wollo, etc, the amhara farmers supported them to the fullest. and oromo farmers, except for some places, like ambo, were indifferent to them.
