The Ishaaq Sultanate formally known as Somaliland is the longest and most vast of all Sultanates in somali history. It encompasses lands stretching from the godaborsi and issa in the far west to the wild Harti(dolbohonte & warsangeli) in the far east. Traditionally somali "sultanates" if one could call it that, consisted of a minor subclan ruling over itself and claiming sultanship. This can be seen by the warsongeli and the miguirtan sultanate who primarily ruled only over their respective subclan. The Ishaaq sultanate is unique in this matter where it is all encompassing of the 8 iidoor subclans( ahlul ishaaq), while maintaining a firm grip on neighbouring clans such as those aforementioned.

The sultanate was firmly established in 1991 and has continued and expanded rulership to this very day. The respective clans who are east and west of this sultanate once viewed the Ishaaq as a enemy, thus eager to break away from its dominion. Many rebellious groups have given rise due this cynicism, yet none have been able to dislodge the lofty status of the Ishaaq dominion

There is no such thing "isaaq sultanate" there is the Republic of Somaliland and the isaaqs are one of its subjects.
