His father Ras Makonnen was not a Muslim. He along with Ras Darge, Menelik’s uncle, led the eastern expansion first defeating Arsi, Harar...

His mother was a Muslim and was born to Oromo king and trader from Gondar who ruled Wollo, Ali Abba Jifar and not to be confused with Abba Jifar I and II of Jimma/Wellega—-that’s Abiy’s folks while Haile was Yejju and his mum too.

Abiy is not Muslim.

His father was like many Oromo leaders. They always change religion outside the palace premises. They have that history.

Indeed Jawar is proud Muslim and Arsooma. Daud Ibsa is Muslim but maybe he will change religion if he is told his OLF can replace Abiy. Their religion identity and their begging follow similar paths.
