General population census of Somali clans by Italy 1931

Here, the results of the official general census of population of Somalia Italiana of 1931. It paints a very clear picture of hierarchy of Somali clans inhabiting the Italian colony in terms of population.

- By far Hawiye is the largest clan in Somalia at 35% of the population.

- Followed by Raxanweyn at 27.2%.

- Followed by Darod at 22.8%.

It clearly shows Darod being a minority in Somalia, just like they are a minority group in Somaliland, yet they are always barking about numbers.

Whats funny is that they are not even the second largest clan in Somalia, as they are behind Raxanweyn in numbers

You can see in the table that the Bon are recorded to have their largest concentration (+70%) in Alto Guiba, that is the old name of Gedo.

We are discussing the 1931 census of Somalia Italiana, which puts Darod at no.3, behind Hawiye and Raxanweyn in terms of population.

Although the thread is not about Somaliland, the situation is not any better for Darod there as they come in at no.3 again, behind both Isaaq and Dir, and make up an even smaller segment of the total population than in Somalia.

There is an undeniable fact, Darod is a minority clan in both territories.
