Kismaayo Airport Renamed Sayid Mohamed Abdulle Airport

Post by Turbulence »

I think it was previously named Ahmed Gurey Airport but that has been changed. How do you view this move?

Image
Kismayo Airport will from now henceforth be known as Sayid Mohamed Abdille Hassan International Airport in honour of Somalia's hero by the same name. The airport is an international airport that serves Kismayo, the capital city of the Lower Juba region in Somalia located in southern Jubaland, an autonomous region in Somalia.

Sayid Mohamed Abdille Hassan fought against colonialism in Somalia. He established the Dervish movement, an armed resistance movement that operated between 1899 and 1920, in Somalia that fought a 20-year war against the British, Italian, and Ethiopian empires. Sayid Mohamed was both a religious and militant leader. He aimed for the removal of the colonial state and foreign infidels, the defeat of the Ethiopian forces supporting the colonial powers, and the creation of a Muslim state.

It will be changed back when kismayo is liberated from Kenya. This man was not a freedom fighter but a local terrorist who used to steal camels from dhulbanate while under Italian protection which he signed with them in 1905 treaty of ilig. This is an open attempt to ogadenise the city and remove Dir history even though the only ogaden that supported him was bah geri and the majority of leadership and the general of the dervish forces was isaaq.

I am curious. Who is going to liberate Kismaayo from the Kenyans? Also I disagree with your take on Sayidka. Somalis of all clans would not fight and die for him if they did not consider him a freedom fighter. Leaders are never without fault. A good portion of my own family died fighting for him in the north.
The majority of leadership and the general of the dervish forces was isaaq.

As someone else already mentioned, the airstrip is (in a true Skinny fashion) bound to undergo a constant name changes depending which qabiil happens to be controlling the town at the time.

I'd much rather see an offensive against the terrorists given a name.....eg operation clean house....or operation smoke out.

There is no airport at Talex...its a desert airstrip that gets about 3-4 flights per year.
