I was there to mentor some of the high school Somali kids but this Sacad brother became my own mentor (about life/spirituality) and like an older brother to him. When I was confused and said don't Habar Gidir speak the same accent as their Marehan/Majerteen neighbors, he said nop. He taught me his Sacad is the most closest to the Darod accent but even then he said you will never see a Mareexaan or Majeerteen pronounce "j" like even a "j". He said they always pronounce it like a "ch" whereas Hawiye pronounce it like a hard "jj". Another thing was like if you look at for instance "uga baxaynaa" he said Marehan/Majerten will pronounce it "u-ga-baxayn-naa" whereas Hawiye will pronounce it "ug-gaba-xay-naa". He said how many times has he seen his own Sacad talk like a Darod when Darod is present but then go back to their own speech when with Hawiye.

So small little jokes like that.

But one of the things that he taught me that was more serious was he said as Habar Gidir, there is no Somali group they love more than Mareexaan but it's always we feel (he said) it's Mareexaan that doesn't like us back.
