No he was not arrested. Someone made the call to try something though, some say it was abiy or some amharas. Either way, it's far from a smart move and would only lead to some kind of civil unrest that may very well lead to the collapse of Ethiopia. Jawar has millions behind him, regardless of how anyone may feel about him. He was the first activist to publicly speak about the oromo cause back in the day on al jazeera.
He is in the process of renouncing his us citizenship to fully become an Ethiopian citizen and he may run for office as well.

Abiy personally doesn't appear to hate jawar but the amhara elites and their cadres hate jawar and any oromo nationalist leader, intensely.
