Somaliland is also set to complete the expansion of berbera port, which is important for both Somaliland and Ethiopia. Currently Ethiopia uses 90% of its imports and exports via Djibouti. But Abiy Ahmed has made it clear Ethiopia would not rely solely on Djibouti. Abiy Ahmed also knows if he wants to achieve his goal of creating long lasting peace in the Horn of Africa, then somaliland must be included.

I don't know how this helps Farmaajo get elected. This makes absolutely no sense. The iidoor individuals who participate in the politics of The South that "elect" presidents have nothing to do with Biixi or Hargaisa. You just need to pay those guys just like everyone who has a vote to get elected. If anything the government in Mogadishu working with Hargaisa alienates these individuals and makes them useless in the long term so I doubt they would be for these talks despite what they utter in public.
