Dude wanted to make a quick buck. He tried to borrow money and bring it back before anyone knew but the shit backfired on him. He took a risk and now he has to pay the price. The question is if anyone else knew about it or was involved in it. We will find out soon. The government did a good job arresting him though instead of brushing it under the rug like the previous ones would have done.

If there was accountability, diverting tens millions of dollars from the ministry's account would have raised immediate alarms, but didn't. This can only mean higher level officials were aware of what was going on, as they deemed it was low risk investment. It's an issue now because the funds aren't going to come back, and there has to be a scapegoat, a role reserved for low-mid level officials. I don't think much will come from the investigation, but want to reiterate I don't blame any party as corruption is institutionalized in most Somali politicians. The best that can be hoped is to limit the corruption.Turbulence wrote: Mon Apr 06, 2020 9:39 am Dude wanted to make a quick buck. He made a bad investment with money that wasn't his, he now has to pay the price, the entire ministry of health should be investigated.Turbulence wrote: Mon Apr 06, 2020 9:39 am Dude wanted to make a quick buck. Are you implying the gov entrusted tens millions of dollars with a single individual without failsafe measures?dalalos101 wrote: Mon Apr 06, 2020 10:18 am He made a bad investment with money that wasn't his, he now has to pay the price, the entire ministry of health should be investigated.

I am not implying it, its a fact, he is part of the government, he is the finance director of the health ministry, and I don't think he was doing this by himself, which is why I think the health ministry should be investigated in its totality, SFG taking corrective measures is a step in the right direction.paperino wrote: Mon Apr 06, 2020 10:25 amAre you implying the gov entrusted tens millions of dollars with a single individual without failsafe measures?dalalos101 wrote: Mon Apr 06, 2020 10:18 am He made a bad investment with money that wasn't his, he now has to pay the price, the entire ministry of health should be investigated.
by the way where did you get the figure "tens of millions" from ? you can't just throw exaggerated figures around. Even I as a layman know the Health ministry doesn't have that much money to lose.

Re: Finance Director Of Somali Ministry Of Health Just Arrested For Corruption
a. The minimum "tens" is 20, a number the ministry's account would easily command.dalalos101 wrote: Mon Apr 06, 2020 10:41 am by the way where did you get the figure "tens of millions" from ? you can't just throw exaggerated figures around. b. Given around 145 millions were lost in the Forex, it's easy to deduce "tens" were diverted from the ministry.
c. Insider info.

As for these figures, it seems exaggerated hence why I asked you to provide evidence instead of guesstimate, Somalis love to sensationalize things and make their stories have more impact, , when you say tens of millions LMAO you are clearly implying a huge sum, and a simple questioning made you reduce it to 20 million a far less extraordinary figure, but even that figure is too high, I know in the last 3 years we have made huge improvement but 20M is around 6% of the national budget. what makes you think that is even remotely close to what this guy stole from the ministry of health.

Sxb, you're attempting to whitewash & minimize the corruption that's endemic within Somalia's politicians. As I've mentioned before, it's institutionalized in the core of politicians, and can't be eradicated. The current gov might look a bit refined on the surface, but isn't different. I understand the gov is swimming in the swamps, and that's why I haven't blamed it for corruption.dalalos101 wrote: Mon Apr 06, 2020 11:38 am Bro I don't want you to think I am disagreeing with you or anything, I am happy the guy was caught, and I want further investigations to be carried out.

Paperino,
I have said corruption is more dangerous than argaxiiso. Corruptions affects more people and kills many more albeit slowly and not covered by the media.
Case in point is when we get outbreaks of cholera after each rainy season. Thousands die because the governments pocket funds that should have been used for clean water and sanitation. But dying of dysentery is not media worthy

give it time, we are just starting to experience accountability, check and balances, something unheard of in the last 30 years.AbdiWahab252 wrote: Mon Apr 06, 2020 12:30 pm Paperino,

If I was President it would be a public trial with asset seizure and time in penal colony breaking rocks. Corruption kills!
