He will probably return as a president if he chooses to. Similar to when Farmaajo was ousted in Kambala, Kheyre will need to be a little patient though to make his comeback successful. Ironically I think he will benefit a lot in the future from the 1P1V voting system he was so opposed when he was a prime minister.
