Hirshabelle's commercial Capital as a potential trade route for landlocked Ethiopia

Post by sahal80 »

and bay iyo bakool

The future is promising!

in the short term for Hiiraan we need hobyo port but in the long term we will have own Hirshabelle port and there r plans of dry port in Feerfeer. even hobyo would need to export to Ethiopia through kalabeyr/Feerfeer-Godey corridor.

we would need to build inshallah a road from Adale that goes half way between Jowhar and Jalalaqsi around mahaday 26km North of Jowhar.

Sahal if I ever decide to visit your country Somalia then I think Beledweyne should be the first place I visit. Hopefully you'll be there to give me a tour :D

Good luck Sahal, we will be competing for that trade in Gedo. But this is good competition like how City of Seattle Port has stiff competition from Tacoma Port just 30 miles, they are the only two ports for 5 American states and they are literally 40 minutes apart. Talk about competing. Finally in 2015 they joined under one management aftee they realized Tacoma is great for seafood industry and seattle ia great for material shipping, now they compete jointly against Vancouver

In Southern Ogaden (south of Shabelle River) and Bale +Borona of Oromia upto Wolayta, Marehan Gedo have drafted active plan using the direct connection between the biggest town in Ethiopia in that huge land , (NAGEEYLE). We are also looking to capitalize on the fact ALL OF BAY/BAKOOL trade with Ethiopia comes through Luq.

For this, the airport in Beled-Xawa is being built and the road network between Dollow-Luuq and Dollow-BeledXawa. A huge reason for the warming of ties with Degoodiye and Garre includes this.

Plan is for Dollow to receive south of Shabelle and Balle, including for Bay and Bakool
With Borana and Southern Ethiopia trade to both south Somalia and Mandera Triangle (Mandera-S Somalia-Liban) received at Beled Xaawo
Both Beled Xaawo + Dollow head to Luuq
At Luuq, everything for Bay and Bakool to Xamar goes to Baidoa and everything going down to Jubbaland goes to Garbahaarey than Baardheere down to Kismaayo

We are banking on 3 things

1. Geography, almost no one in Somalia realizes both Beled-Xawa and Dollow are more WEST than Jigjiga, even more West than parts of Djibouti,
2. Established infrastructure between Southern Ethiopia and Mandera triangle, I mean the road network between Addis to Nageyle and Neygle to Mandera Triangle is some of the newest and developed becausr of security reasons for Ethiopia since aAl Itihad. It's not a coicidence heavy Ethiopian troop movement enter and exit Somalia through Dollow-Luuq
3. People, Garre and Degoodiye are intimately shared in this interest, plus up to Nageyle, we part of the community

We are definitely rooting for different competitiors but I think Beled-Weyne would be great at targeting the Shabelle Corridor even all the way to Harar and Jijiga...Somaliland has taken things for granted and BeledWeyne has both people advantage as well as the river population density and historic trade route

But anyways, I firmly believe in competition for NET positive effect

Gedo is in the southern tip of Somalia and having borders with two countries is Good for security and travelling maybe that why all mxs are in abroad but politically not good being divided by two countries

Baladweyne is a central region so its great for within Somalia and if Hirshabelle had a port in 10 years with better security bc al Shabaab is just a phenomenon that will disappear one day we will trade with Ethiopia through Baladweyne

if Ethiopia trades with Kismayo port it will be likely through Garisa-Moyale bc of their tribal connections and the good infrastructure and highway corridor linking them to Ethiopia

Cadale is located 130km North of Xamar parallel to mahaday or half way between Jowhar jalalaqsi

first of all, there is nothing to compare when it comes to Gedo and hiiraan. both are not even after the same market.

i don't know about hiiraan, but as for gedo it is very simple. the trade with Kenya is always from kismaayo to either beledxaawo or ceelwaaq. this was from the 90's up to today. And for Ethiopia the northern part (addis ababa will always go through Djibouti) but the southern part like negele will go through kismaayo then gedo. infact the closest wordea to Negele is dheeka suftu which has a potential of becoming a dry port.
