Folks
You want to know why the Marehan of Liban (mostly reer Hassan but a lot of rer Guri with them) haven't been massacred/wiped out during the early 90's period when both thé Borana (Oromo) of Nagele and the Degoodiye (Somali) of Filtu convienently both timed their attack to coincide with the start of civil war in Somalia?
The Arsi interfered to protect Marehan after the defeat.
This is the fascinating thing about Arsi; when another Somali clan (Dagoodi) was at that time simultaneously attacking us with the Borana-----the Arsi (who also have grazing issues with Marehan mind you) stepped in to quite literally save the "existence" of Marehan in Liban.
It is difficult to understate the threat of ethnic cleansing Marehan faced in Liban at that time with virtually all factions in the Somali civil war attacking Marehan similarly in Somalia.
The Arsi did that because of Islam and because of respect for what they said was Marehan's help to them in their time of need as well.
This history is longer than the 1977 Ogaden War but includes even The Jeegir Resistance started by Sheikh Hussein (Marehan/rer Hassan) with Marehan leading the Somalis of Liban in alliance with Arsi against the reestablishment of Abyssinian rule aftee WW2.
- That's how "Harro Marehan" settlement came to existence----the place where the displaced and uprooted Marehan fleeing Nagele and Liban were able to coalesce together for safety and numbers with Borana and Guji kept at bay by Arsi security guarantee.
- Harro Marehan survived the turbulent 90's that way until reorganization of the federal system recognized it as a qabala (kabele) or settlementof the historic Marehan community of Nagele.
