Gedo Conflict Profile Map

Post by MrSinister »

I've been trying to understand the underlying issues in Gedo. I've come across the map below from a report by conflict dynamics international. They seem to be a reputable organization. I know the map below is outdated (from 2013), but I wonder how accurately does it reflect the current issues in Gedo? Given all of these intra-mx issues, how realistic is it to hold elections in gedo? I feel this would cause more conflict.

2013 Al Shabaab controlled parts of Mogadishu.

You are beyond outdated.

Research "DYNAMIC ENVIRONMENT".

A dynamic enviromment like a warzone can have a decade's worth of "changes" in a single year.

Things are "DYNAMIC" not "STATIC."

8 years ago might as well be a century ago.

Fair enough. I doubt the clan issues have changed much though.

To be honest, you have an agenda, so I expected this response from you. I'm interested in hearing from people in the region.

Can you please troll some where else? I'm actually trying to educate myself on this and I'm interested to hear from people who are from the region. Not someone from mudug who wants to carry water for a failed dictator.

Anyways, back to my point. There is potential for serious conflict in the region if an election that is seen as not being fair to one community or another were to happen. I think the international community should be made aware of these issues and the potential an election in gedo can have in inflaming intra clan tensions. The way to avoid all of this is for all of the elections for JL MP's to happen in Kismayo, that way no community in Gedo feels they have been discriminated against.

I don't think the donors understand the pandora's box they've opened. You can't have elections when there hasn't been serious reconciliation in Gedo. You are being short-sighted sxb.

I'm also trying to understand the reer guri and galti conflict in Gedo. I was under the impression that Reer Hassan and Talhe were reer guri.

"Guri vs. galti: The Marehan in Gedo include guri (‘original inhabitant’) communities and galti (‘new settler’)
communities who are often divided in competing political groups. Today the guri-galti conflict is reflected in the
leadership of the region. Mistrust between the two groups is based on a lack of power-sharing mechanisms. "

It’s a public forum, why are you lot so sensitive? Go ahead and start a topic on PL. I could care less.

PL wouldn’t function if there wasn’t reconciliation among the clans that live there. JL and especially Gedo needs to have that happen before elections. I’m from JL (Kismayo) and have an interest in a peaceful JL. The clan issues there are especially complicated and not as simple as some here would have us believe.
