We had stayed in Medina district since december 1990, Medina was the government base it was where most Kacaan loyalists were based to the end. Medina is actually an Abgaal clan area but since 1970s more and more Darood were buying it up. Around 5000 Marehan troops had fled to Gedo when the first shots were fired, leaving behind around 600 Dhulbahante troops still fighting in Xoosh Medina for 4 weeks. The Hawiye in SNA refused to fight the USC and went home as civilians This few Dhulbahante government loyalists actually gave the Darood population in Benadir the opportunity to evacuate to Kismayio, most of them were on the highway on January 28 . Siyad Barre in his last speech as President in radio Mogadishu said nobody leave the city and as Muslims it was our duty to accept fate and nobody could escape their fate. By Jan 28 Maamuska Medica our neighborhood in the suburbs was totally empty 90 % of the inhabitants Darood had left in early January , it was like a ghost town, just mobs of people from the city has arrived and were looting by going to from house to house. We had been naive to stay behind believing the government was strong enough. Anyways two days after Siyad Barre left Xamar, we took our cars my Isaaq side of the family left towards Burco and drive on the highway that leads to Jowhar since they were not going to get killed, my dads side took the highway towards Kismayio minus my Habar Awal Sacad Muuse grandmom who went with us if anybody were going to kill her kids she was going with them she declared and three days later we arrived in Kismayio as few Majeetein men were bravely defending the city
