Do you think Somalis/Somalia are cursed? Alhamdulilah I travel a lot overseas and I very rarely find commonalities with the things that plague us somalis.

Okay maybe a South Sudan, Congo but news flash there’s 195 countries in the world. That puts us at the bottom 1% of the planet going back going back almost 40 years. The crazy thing is how low stakes our conflict is. There is no winner take all, major ramifications that come out of our conflict similar to what just happened in Ethiopia, Afghanistan, what is happening in Ukraine/Russia.


Our conflict is a incredibly steady, low intensity, relatively pointless conflict that really leads to no permanent status quo. I understand violence going to the beginning of time serves a purpose, and it shapes the world good or bad depending on your purview. I’m not coming with some unrealistic peace living kumbaya stuff. I’m just lost as to why violence doesn’t shape Somalia one way or another.

The Somali disease cannot be understood without an analysis of the external actors.

Every tribe, and even sub tribe, has a foreign psyron/ patrons whom are all competing for influence.

Personally, I believe the only agenda is to keep Somalia weak and divided.

We are hard headed people and have not learned from the civil war. Every Somali leader in Somalia including those in Somaliland and Puntland want to be the next Siade Barre (AUN). The reality is the Somalia under Siade or the previous civilian governments are not coming back.

Somali’s today are fractured and don’t trust each other (for good reason), and all of the major clans are armed, therefore no clan can enforce their will on another. Somalilanders learned that the hard way.

Once we accept that reality and build a system based on that, whether it’s a confederation or even separate countries, we can finally move on.

No, best solution is separate states. Somaliland goes its own way while dhulo/warsangeli join Somalia. No need to go in circles - after that isaaq and darod should cut off all ties/contact and each focus on development and their own affairs
