Did Mareexaan rule Puntland before Harti?

Post by Gashireedle »

According to Gabriel Ferrand, the principal Somali tribes are: (1) The Isa, between Jibuti, Khor Culangarit, and Ghildessa with the ports of Jibuti and Zeila , (2) the Gadabursi, in a mountainous quadrilateral lying NNE-SSW, traversed diagonally by the 41" long, and havingits extreme angles at about lu 40' lat. towards the NW and at 9 3(X towards the SE , (3) the Habr Awal to the east of the last, with the ports of Dudigareita, Bulbar, Berbera, and Siyara, (4) the Habr Tooljale, between Adal Corda on the Barno, the mountains Bunlab, Mujo, and the mountains of the Gulal, (5) the Habr Gheraj, who toghether with the Habr Awal and the Habr Tooljaale are also called Habr Magadle, (6) The Warsangelli, between Gudneida on the Sea, the mountains Gargar, the Tug Daror, and the port of Bender Ziyade, (7) the Dulbuhante, to the south of the Warsangeli, to the east of the Habr Tooljale, to the north of the Ogaden, and the west of the Mijurtin (Majerteen), with the high valley of the Wadi Nugal and with the village of Bohotle, (8) The Merraihan (Marehan), an important sultanate which extends from Bender Ziyade on the gulf of Aden to beyond Ras el-Khyle on the Indian Ocean, (9) the Gherri, to the SSE of the Bartirri to the east of the latter , (11) the Barsub, towards the source of the river Fafan, (12) the Babilii, to the west of the Bartirri and the and the Barsub and the Galla frontier , (12) the Habesoal to the east of the Gherri and the Barsub , (14) the Mirawawal and the Mecabul in Ogaden , (15) the Hawiya, to the south of the Mijurtin(Majeerteen),in all the zone towards the Indian Ocean, divided, like the former, into numerous tribes, among which may be named the Harti, the Abgal, the Bimal, the Shidle , and(16)the Rahanuin who perhaps are not of Somali race, although they speak the Somali lauguage, between the Webi Shabelle, the Ogaden, the Galla, the river Tana, and the mouth of the Juba [1]

Why was is this kingdom never mentioned and why wasn't it recorded historically and orally as much as the Makhiris and Majeerten for example who recorded all their rulers and history about their kingdoms, the source states it was a vital kingdom and mentions major trading cities in our control, yet no one has ever taken mention of this.

It is not historical factual all tho there could be something to it that once a man with such background controlled a port there but you have to understand that Puntland was a desolate place. Hence you can hear things like Warsangeli sultanate, Majeerteen sultanate etc etc but all of them weren't a sultanate as per rule but were mostly village mayors because in order to ethablish empire or sultanate in the real essence word you need a sprouting civilization and a territory that can house a massive civilization.

Another thing all the history from the Gumeysi colonial era talking about emirs is fictional because the country was effectively under gumeysi and in order for an empire to have an golden age it needs to be independent and be able to ethablish itself as an sprouting civilization that is flourishing.

The british wrote about the somalis ugly stuff such as describing their character as the following and I MEAN the geeljires ''lying, cowardly and untruthful'' Do I agree with this unfortunately yes there is nothing more lying then the geeljire they were people who survived and lived on their mouths and told fake poems since it was a poem country and you would hear confusing poems countering each other back and forth stuff hence liars could thrive here and this is what the british and italians noticed.

Image

Which is why you will never see a skinny storytellers in encyclopedia because they are rejected as basic trash below daef just like in hadith they rate the character of the narrators before grading it hence encyclopedia has rated them as day-dreamers which is kind of true.

Also majority of the colonial historians aren't reliable as they didn't do complete due diligence but however the arab historians or historians pre-colonial era did somalia justice academically.

But now I am going to tell you the empires and these who were a village mayor. Example look at Bari is there any trace of civilization the answer is no it is a desolate area example look at Las Qoray claimed to be a capital but it was not in reality but instead a tribe had huts there and a tribal cheftain and nothing more.

Hence the following were empires.. Ajuuraan, Hiraab Imamate, Adal Kingdom/Adal sultanate. The adal kingdom was much older 9-14 century exclusively Dir and replaced by Adal sultanate. The first was exclusively dir kingdom while the later one was intermixed kingdom with still dir majority, Karanle, Ogaden and Marehan. The Last emperor of Adal before it collapsed was Marehan by the name of Nur he succeeded Ahmed Gurey a Karanle and married his wife this people were religious and none-tribal. After the 1577 collapse of Adal it became a Ottoman territory who ruled from Zaylac and that city was the economic heart hence for 300 years it was under Arab-Ottoman coalition and no Northern Somalia empire could re-rise Until late 1800s when the Idoors ethablished Isaaq sultanate they took back Zaylac into Somali controll for the first time since 300 years the Idoors were the once who returned Zaylac. Would I rate the Isaaq sultanate as an civilization yes because their territories were mostly under ottoman for larger parts hence it had developed some form of civilization which is the only one which can be accepted outside of the once I mentioned on the above all tho much smaller and lasted little over a 100 years until the british annexed it.

Hence in Somali history you have 4 empires Ajuuraan, Hiiraab Imammate, Adal Kingdom/Sultanate and Isaaq Sultanate.. Everything else were either towns cheftain, houses, principlities or village cheftains.

Because in order to rate an empire you have to check the geography, traces of human footprints, the feasbilitiy of the area being able to actully support a civilization, water, economic potential etc etc.

Also the reason why Adal didn't succeded like the Ajuuraan succeeded was due to geography and technically speaking the people of Adal and Ajuuraan were the same who split up from each other some came down for the shabelle river in order to build there something and I would say majority of them came while few remained behind and the once who remained behind founded Adal which is basically Issa, Akisha, Gudabirsi, Aji of the North but later on grew from there and add more muslims to the mix including Hararis..
