Thank God for the information age and access and dissemination of information.

Probably few people have as much understanding as I do about this topic regarding Marehan and how singularly targeted Marehan were by misinformation, false mythologizing, and grievance making.

When I first started having 'awareness' of Somali socio-political discourse the misinformation was the 'standard' and Marehan was the one disadvantaged by the burden of proof. As in Marehan had to disprove the misinformation rather than the misinformation having to prove its justification..

Today it is the complete opposite. It is even completely the inverse.

Information technology, the search engine revolution, digital repositories, cellular data, the cloud, and the fountain troves of colonial records, historical archives---EXISTENCE, AVAILABILITY, ACCESS to these records using regular smartphones even has completely reoriented the the equities, discussions, and even implications at stake.

Today only 'fringe' discussions and 'fringe' individuals implicate a discussion with "Siad Barre brought Marehan to Gedo"---

---but when I was first becoming aware of Somali socio-political discourse that was the norm and even predictable that it would be implicated in high level, serious Somali political discussions.

Marehan was always an important Somali clan and taken altogether, from the Futuh to now probably the single most continuing Somali clan at their level of political importance to the Somali people.

Relative to and even disproportionately to most if not all other Somali clan---there is a long, very long record trail.

It is possible their equity was even targeted in part because of the force of their 'historicity,' i.e. basis for 'grievance.'

And that it is absolutely the unassailable fact and reality that the development of information technology and the availability and expansion of access to that 'historicity' has fundamentally overcome misinformation to such an extent implicating a grievance based on "Siad Barre brought Marehan to Gedo" is not even about needing to justify its relevance----but that it is even immediately disqualifying in any mainstream equity discussion.

Marehan isn't 'threatened' by misinformation..that was the past.

Marehan is today tremendously 'privileged' by the extent of their corroboration by advancement in information technology.
